The Training and Development Manager leads a team of Training

Associates responsible for supporting a high-quality onboarding and training experience for US Commercial field staff across multiple business units. A critical component of this role is people leadership, including setting clear priorities, coaching and developing team members, managing performance, and creating an engaged, collaborative team environment.

The Training and Development Manager oversees the remote onboarding of all U.S. Commercial Field Staff across multiple business units and supports training events (e.g., new hire training, launch training, and sales force expansions) in both virtual and live settings. Reporting to the Accelerating Talent Director, the Training and Development Manager will partner primarily with the Training & Development directors and field training managers across all business units and establish cross-functional relationships with various partners, including Information Systems, Field Operations, Security, and the Talent Acquisition team.

Success in this role requires strong people leadership, operational excellence, sound judgment, and the ability to build relationships and lead effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

This is a hybrid role and will require candidate to support in-person trainings and meetings at Amgen headquarters in Thousand Oaks, CA.

Responsibilities of this position will include:

Lead, coach, and develop a team of Training Associates, including setting priorities, allocating work, providing feedback and coaching, managing performance, and supporting team member development.

Serve as an escalation point for the team, providing hands-on guidance and support to resolve operational, process, technology, and stakeholder issues.

Monitor incoming field roster notifications and manage new hire and training participant rosters.

Manage weekly onboarding communications to new hires and hiring managers.

Serve as an advocate and point of contact for technology- and process-related issues for incoming new hires, hiring managers, and training teams.

Coordinate and monitor new commercial field staff to attend Concur training, archive bi-weekly rosters, and mark complete in LMS per compliance requirements

Run and distribute reports from systems such as LMS, Tableau, and Zoho, including quarterly new hire training metrics.

Manage and update the HR/Compliance new hire checklist and field-based onboarding playlist in Learning Hub.

Partner cross-functionally to manage changing priorities and deliver against the needs of multiple stakeholders and business units.

Collaborate with directors and senior leadership on annual training schedules and update/distribute as needed

Continually assess the landscape and find opportunities to improve, standardize, or streamline business processes

Proactively communicate with training teams and partner across functions to ensure strategic alignment and to seek opportunities for increased efficiency

Provide onsite support during live training events as needed

Oversee space allocation for live onsite training, including monitoring specific neighborhood calendars to approve/decline space as needed

Assist in providing documentation for inspections/audits

Manage the USBO sales training budget, including forecasting, tracking expenditures, and meeting budget deadlines

Support and drive special projects as needed

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree

Master’s degree and 2 years of working in the pharmaceutical industry, account management, patient access and/or experience in training (headquarter or field-based)

Bachelor’s Degree and 4 years of working in the pharmaceutical industry, account management, patient access and/or experience in training (headquarter or field-based)

Associate’s Degree and 8 years of working in the pharmaceutical industry, account management, patient access and/or experience in training (headquarter or field-based)

High school diploma / GED and 10 years of working in the pharmaceutical industry, account management, patient access and/or experience in training (headquarter or field-based)

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and 4 years in Learning and Development, Event Management, Business, Pharmaceutical/ Biotechnology Industry OR

Previous job experience in Learning and Development in the Pharmaceutical/ Biotechnology Industry

Demonstrated experience leading, coaching, and developing others, with direct people management experience strongly preferred

Proven ability / experience coordinating small to large training events

Experience with managing relationships with key stakeholders

Experience managing competing demands and priorities in a fast-paced environment

Strong customer service and problem-solving skills

Strong time management, organization, and prioritization skills

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities

Ability to work well in teams and interact effectively with various levels of management

Flexibility and willingness to provide hands-on support to meet evolving team and business needs

Strong computer and database skills with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Teams

Experience with databases and business analysis tools (e.g., ATLAS, Tableau, Power BI, SharePoint, Learning Management Systems) a plus

Able to lift 25 lbs.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
