Compensation Data

The base salary range for this position is $230,400 to $345,600.   The position may be eligible for a role-specific discretionary bonus, relocation assistance, and/or other compensation elements. This role is based on-site at our Ridgefield, CT location with hybrid flexibility of 2-3 days per week on-site. 

The US Early Assets Eye Health Marketing Lead drives corporate TA development to maximize commercial value for U.S. market and to create a U.S. commercialization strategy for future portfolio of early assets. Provides input and insight-based recommendations into key strategic early asset deliverables. This role serves as the strategic marketing lead on the U.S. Early Assets teams until transitioning to a core team member of the U.S. Early Assets Eye Health Team around SoD.

This role is responsible for leading U.S. commercial strategy and value maximization for eye health assets and new indications from preclinical development and cTPP formation through transfer to the asset team at Release of Full Development (ROFD). The role brings a deep U.S. eye health perspective to global pipeline commercial activities and prepares each opportunity for informed investment, development, differentiation, and transition decisions.

Therapeutic scope is eye health, with particular emphasis on retinal diseases including geographic atrophy (GA), diabetic retinopathy (DR), diabetic macular edema (DME), and age-related macular degeneration (AMD), including neovascular AMD where relevant.

Development scope begins in preclinical development, including cTPP development, and continues through formal transfer to an asset team at ROFD.

Primary focus is asset strategy, commercial value maximization, evidence-based U.S. input, and pre-ROFD commercialization planning. Post-transfer brand execution and launch tactics are outside the scope of this role.

Stakeholder scope includes retina specialists, comprehensive and general ophthalmologists, optometrists, patients, caregivers, payers, integrated eye care networks, and other partners that influence diagnosis, referral, treatment, access, and longitudinal care.

Eye Health Asset and Portfolio Strategy

Lead the U.S. early asset strategic plan or Value Proposition Development Plan for each assigned eye health asset and new indication, establishing strategic choices, value drivers, U.S. success factors, assumptions, risks, and decision points required before ROFD.

Translate retinal science, clinical evidence, patient experience, provider workflow, referral dynamics, payer considerations, and market insights into actionable commercial recommendations that guide development and maximize long-term U.S. value.

Maintain a current, practical understanding of the U.S. eye health market landscape, including care settings, referral pathways, diagnostic practices, treatment capacity, office economics, buy-and-bill dynamics, access considerations, and differences across retinal practices and broader ophthalmology and optometry channels.

Duties & Responsibilities

Responsible for critically understanding the asset and current plus future competition which includes current and future evidence generation, competitive advantages and disadvantages, and asset/ portfolio positioning (e.g., competitor pipeline analysis, scenario planning based on potential competitor actions, and developing specific competitive strategies).

Co-creates global deliverables by giving input into U.S. and Corporate working teams (Knowledge Networks, Early Asset Teams, Value Deliverable Teams) for forecasts and asset strategy within the Integrated Asset Plan.

Proactively informs and influences, provides briefing and recommendations to US Leadership/CMC members for decisions and additional commercialization topics at EC level governance forums such as TALC and HPSC.

Provides insight-based input into the development of value drivers to deliver a strong value proposition for each asset through the VPDP (value proposition development process) and provides inputs into the GTM strategy, when appropriate.

Leads the development of the disease handbook and respective updates, communicates the market understanding to stakeholders.

Identifies and communicates areas for improvement and Optimization – Drives continuous improvement initiatives to optimize the product transition process from early asset to post PoCP, sharing and implementing best practices, tools, and methodologies to streamline workflows and enhance efficiency for other US Early Asset Teams.

Provides valuable insight-based recommendations into the corporate Early Asset Value team by understanding the prescriber and the patient which includes:

Patient prevalence, diagnosis and treatment rates, patient journey, understanding the HCP (mapping, journey and segmentation, actively engaging with patient advocacy groups, external partners, KEEs etc. to understand the prescriber and patient perspective that could shape the disease map, PoPC study design and patient flow.

Translating key insights from scientific experts (internal R&D colleagues and external opinion leaders) into clear, actionable strategies for the asset and/or franchise.

Managing the early asset budget (GP) to ensure we appropriately and efficiently invest to set the strategic foundation.

Leads the development of an early brand strategy by understanding the market landscape of the future:

Provides an understanding of the asset indication space, early planning for line extensions or new indications, current and future market opportunities and challenges, regulatory guidelines, and high-level market access strategies in partnership with the early asset team and global.

Uses in depth disease area, patient journey and market knowledge to influence development colleagues providing strategic direction to inform clinical trial design.

Evaluating the opportunity:

Co-creates global forecast (which could include OPU expenses) or creating bottoms-up forecast for the U.S. market, leads the development of early asset brand strategy.

Leads US economic evaluation for early assets to determine feasibility of success in the US for Global strategic choices and recommendations.

Collaborates to develop the market research plan, the respective market research survey and associated budget.

Requirements

Bachelor degree in related field required; Master’s in a related field or MBA preferred.

Minimum of twelve to fifteen (12-15) years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry including ten to twelve (10-12) years of pharmaceutical product marketing, commercial, or related experience.

Demonstrated experience in eye health, ophthalmology, retina, or a closely related specialty market. Direct experience in retinal disease areas, particularly GA, DR, DME, and AMD, is strongly preferred.

Demonstrated knowledge of retina specialists, comprehensive and general ophthalmologists, and optometrists, including stakeholder needs, practice workflows, referral relationships, treatment settings, and adoption considerations.

Strong understanding of the U.S. eye health market landscape, including retinal disease epidemiology, diagnosis and treatment pathways, imaging and monitoring, intraocular treatment delivery, patient and practice burden, payer dynamics, and access considerations.

Demonstrated success in early commercial planning/strategies, launch and managing products strongly preferred.

Ability to independently interface with leadership in the U.S. and in corporate.

General understanding of medical practice, payor landscape, FDA and EMEA regulatory processes, launch processes.

Understanding and leadership required of advertising and promotion procedures and guidelines, as well as market research process and tools, and forecasting techniques.

Demonstrated project management skills and able to manage complexity.

Demonstrated ability to achieve results in a highly matrixed organization.

History of successful performance.

Proficiency in MS Office, Outlook and database applications.

Ability to travel (may include overnight travel).
