About this opportunity
Research Chemist
TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead projects for the synthesis of new drugs or the improvement of existing chemical processes in production units, promoting efficiency, sustainability, and profitability.
Manage the procurement of chemical precursors and materials required to carry out the assigned project.
Design and conduct experimental trials for drug synthesis and chemical process optimization in compliance with GMP requirements.
Analyze data for experimental design, identify trends, and interpret results to establish scientific conclusions.
Scale up laboratory trials to Plant I, transfer processes to production units, and provide support by proposing improvements based on the results obtained.
Prepare scientific reports based on the results obtained from experimental trials and/or theoretical assessments.
Prepare and update GMP/GDP documents and process change controls applicable to the Plant Laboratory area.
Prepare regulatory documentation for submission to health authorities covering: compound structure, general properties, manufacturing process flow diagram, justification of starting materials, starting material flow diagram, discussion and control of critical process steps, specification justification, structural elucidation, impurities, preparation of reference standards, stress and photostability testing, polymorphism, impurity characterization, safety assessment, and nitrosamine risk assessment, among other topics.
Participate in the review of Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) and analyze material chemical properties, potential chemical reactions, hazardous substance release risks, and the control measures required to prevent process-related hazards.
Perform preliminary analyses of samples obtained from laboratory trials using analytical techniques such as thin-layer chromatography (TLC), loss on drying (LOD), Karl Fischer water determination, and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), among others.
Coordinate and conduct laboratory trials for the approval of new suppliers in order to obtain products with the required quality and yields.
Conduct trials for the reprocessing or rework of out-of-specification (OOS) products, evaluating their technical feasibility and compliance with regulatory requirements.
