Why ViiV

ViiV Healthcare is the only company 100% focused on HIV. Our purpose is to get ahead of HIV together, our ambition is to help end the HIV and AIDS epidemic, and our mission is to leave no person living with HIV behind.

This role offers the opportunity to shape the future of ViiV’s portfolio across a large and diverse region, influence choices at the intersection of science and commercial strategy and help bring meaningful innovation to people living with and at risk of HIV.

Position Summary

ViiV Healthcare is entering a critical period of portfolio evolution. Sustaining growth requires optimizing pipeline strategy across the Europe and International region, to inform robust pipeline decisions for future innovation on HIV treatment and prevention medications, together with disciplined launch footprint planning to unlock value across a diverse Europe & International region.

The Director, Pipeline & Portfolio Strategy will be the senior regional commercial lead for pipeline and portfolio strategy. The role will shape regional perspectives on asset potential, portfolio choices, launch sequencing and investment priorities, and will translate those choices into aligned action across Global, Regional and local market teams.

Job purpose

To own and lead the Europe & International commercial pipeline and launch strategy, ensuring that ViiV makes clear, evidence-based choices on future assets, lifecycle opportunities, launch readiness and regional investment. The role will provide recommendations for Regional Leadership Team and Global governance decisions, strengthen portfolio discipline across markets, and maximise long-term value and patient impact.

Key accountabilities

Regional pipeline and launch strategy. Define and maintain an integrated, future-facing commercial view of ViiV’s pipeline, and launch sequencing across Europe & International, aligned to enterprise and regional priorities, optimizing pipeline value.

Shape global and regional decisions. Develop an evidence-based strategy for regional recommendations on asset prioritisation, launch sequencing, market archetypes, lifecycle choices and investment trade-offs. Providing the Europe & International commercial perspective for relevant global asset, franchise and governance forums, providing clear recommendations grounded in market potential, patient need, access realities, competitive dynamics and execution feasibility.

Direct early commercial strategy for pipeline assets. Lead regional commercial input from early development through pre-launch, including target product and value proposition considerations, market shaping needs, evidence gaps, customer insights and critical success factors.

Lead insight-led scenario planning. Integrate market research, competitive intelligence, epidemiology, access and policy developments, financial scenarios and local market insight to assess uncertainty and guide portfolio decisions.

Provide enterprise-level matrix leadership. Lead and align senior stakeholders across Commercial, Medical, Market Access, Regulatory, R&D, Finance, Insights & Analytics, CGA, Global and LOC teams, creating clarity on decisions, ownership, milestones and escalation.

Decision-making and autonomy

Portfolio decision leadership. Leads the regional process and recommendation for pipeline and portfolio prioritization and launch sequencing, for material decisions and investment choices taken at the appropriate Regional or Global governance forum.

High autonomy. Operates with significant autonomy, working across a complex matrix remit, to define the regional pipeline and launch plans.

Executive escalation. Escalates choices carrying material commercial, financial, legal, regulatory or reputational implications to the Head of E&I Pipeline and the relevant leadership or governance body as required.

Regional authority. Acts as the accountable regional commercial point of view for assigned pipeline and portfolio matters, while respecting functional decision rights and governance requirements.

Scope and impact

Regional breadth. Above-country responsibility across Europe & International, which is all markets outside US. Encompassing direct local operating companies and Alliance markets with differing epidemiology, access models, competitive environments and commercial maturity.

Business impact. Shapes choices that influence long-range growth, the value realised from future assets, the quality and speed of launch readiness, and the allocation of regional capacity and investment.

Leadership reach. Leads through a senior cross-functional matrix across a complex region.

Executive visibility. Provides regular recommendations, pipeline portfolio strategy, plans and decision materials to Regional Leadership Team members and contributes to relevant Global governance discussions.

Why You?

We will love your high accountability for impact performance, your ambition for patients and strategic curiosity, and your collaboration and influence abilities. Your passion for our mission and purpose of getting ahead of HIV together will enthuse us! How you work is as important as what you deliver.

Knowledge, experience and qualifications

Extensive senior commercial leadership experience in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, healthcare or a closely related sector, with significant exposure to portfolio strategy, pipeline commercialisation, launch excellence or lifecycle management.

Proven success leading complex, multi-market or above-country strategy and delivering through senior cross-functional matrix teams.

Demonstrated ability to convert incomplete and uncertain information into clear strategic choices, scenarios and executive recommendations.

Experience influencing senior leaders and governance forums, including the ability to challenge constructively and create alignment around trade-offs.

Strong commercial and financial acumen, including investment prioritisation, business case development and value assessment.

Experience in HIV or another specialty therapy area is desirable, along with an understanding of differing healthcare, access and policy environments across Europe & International.

How we calculate "similar"

No black box, no LLM guesswork: a deterministic score built from four normalized attributes. Here's this role's own peer group at different match levels, so you can see the mechanism, not just the result.

Every comparison starts from the same 100-point budget: 25 for working in the same function, 40 for the same therapeutic area, 20 for the same or adjacent seniority, 15 for the same country. A dimension we can't confirm on both sides contributes nothing, never a guess, never a free pass.

Unmatched or unknown dimensions score exactly the same: 0 points, never a partial guess. A role we know almost nothing about beyond its function bottoms out at 25%; it never inflates to 100% just because there's little to compare against. Seniority uses a defined ladder (Associate → Manager → Associate Director → Senior → Principal → Director → Senior Director → Executive/VP) so "Director" and "Senior Director" count as adjacent, but "Director" and "Executive/VP" do not.
