Working Environment and Location
This position is hybrid and will require you to be onsite one day per quarter in Surrey, Addlestone office.

Purpose and Scope
The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) -Individual Contributor- Act as a role model within the team in terms of core MSL skills, capabilities and scientific expertise. Supports the development of the strategic and tactical plans for engagement with the medical/scientific community. He/she is a content expert who facilitates gathering insights, disseminating new data and also acts as expert to medical/scientific learning solutions.
Role and Responsibilities
Proactively identifies unmet needs to deepen Astellas’ understanding of the customer needs (patients, consumers, regulators, payers etc)
Contributes to the strengthening of Astellas’ key medical messages, and future plans for development
Identifies and critically assesses research opportunities and plays a supportive role in the execution of evidence generation plans
Supports and leads by example, excellence in execution of all governance processes thus demonstrating understanding of operations
Acts as technical experts for therapeutic and product training for MSLs teams to ensure that MSLs have robust up-to-date scientific knowledge
Builds effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Contributes to cross-functional project teams
Acts as an internal team mentor and coach for MSLs in core aspects of the MSL role, including therapeutic & product knowledge, stakeholder strategy & planning and stakeholder engagement (inc engagement skills such as MedACE)

Respond to unsolicited medical and scientific inquiries
Support MSL Manager in the ongoing development of the MSL teams core skills, capabilities and scientific expertise
Technical expertise in the interpretation of field insights concerning Astellas’ strategy,products, image, competition and stakeholder needs
Translation of relevant customer data and insights into clinical messages in line with the business objectives, and medical brand strategy
Support to development of relevant medical engagement plans in line with business strategy and to plan execution
Accountability for MSL Activities in therapy area
Stakeholder Management; supporting and maintaining stakeholder engagement tracking database
Support to design and to execution of medical KOLs local strategy
Technical expert input into company’s wide cross-functional initiatives
Provide Astellas with actionable scientific, medical and competitive insights and intelligence gained during scientific exchange and assess possible impact on Astellas initiatives, and communicate findings to appropriate Astellas colleagues to guide business strategy development
Generates and utilizes stakeholder insights to and lay the foundation for an impactful stakeholder engagement plan
Provide input to local/regional Medical Plan for both strategies and tactics
Maintain medical and scientific knowledge and staying current to enable peer-to-peer scientific exchange. This can include, but not be limited to, attendance to medical/scientific congresses, evaluate relevant scientific literature, and complete continuous education and self-learning courses
Essential Qualifications
Master’s degree in a health-related science
Substantial years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry and/or in the medical field (e.g. Medical
Affairs, Product Management, Clinical Research) including at last few years as an MSL
Exceptional medical and pharmacological knowledge in the main indications
Detailed knowledge of health care structures and processes in the hospital
Knowledge of health politics
Industry knowledge
IT Skills- MS-Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), med. databases, Internet, Outlook
