Medical Science Liaison (MSL) Jobs

Medical science liaisons are field-based scientific experts who build peer-to-peer relationships with physicians, researchers and other key opinion leaders in a therapeutic area. They share balanced clinical data, answer unsolicited medical questions, support investigator-initiated research, and bring insights from the field back to medical affairs. Unlike sales, the role is non-promotional.

Common titles include MSL, Senior MSL, Regional Medical Scientific Director, MSL Lead and MSL Manager. In Europe the same job is often called Medical Scientific Liaison. Most roles cover a defined territory and are tied to a therapeutic area such as oncology, immunology, neuroscience or rare disease.

Employers usually look for an advanced clinical or scientific degree (PharmD, PhD, MD, or sometimes a nurse practitioner or physician assistant background) plus therapeutic-area knowledge. Prior MSL experience is often preferred but not always required, especially where your clinical specialty matches the product area.
