About this opportunity

Position Summary

As a GSK Medical Science Liaison (MSL), your role will function as a key scientific resource for Canadian hepatology and GI specialists. Your three core responsibilities are: 1) responding to requests for in-depth scientific information in the field of hepatology; 2) discussing and contextualizing new data from scientific conferences, publications, and GSK’s pipeline to ensure a strong external understanding of how the science fits into clinical practice; and 3) driving the capture of important scientific insights from the external environment to support GSK’s research efforts and inform overall medical strategy. As a GSK MSL, you will be expected to drive impact through robust scientific exchange, improve healthcare professionals’ scientific understanding of our data, and support optimal care for people living with chronic hepatitis B and other liver diseases in Canada.

Responsibilities

This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career. These responsibilities include some of the following:

Identify, establish, and maintain scientific peer-to-peer relationships with key external experts in hepatology and GI by providing high-quality scientific exchange and driving impact for patients, in line with GSK values, policies, standards, applicable laws, and regulations.

Be the scientific field-based expert in hepatology in the territory and maintain a deep understanding of relevant diseases, treatments, and the competitive landscape to ensure excellent scientific dialogue and clinical knowledge translation.

Be agile and adaptable to provide value across a continuum of both internal and external stakeholders in a non-promotional manner and be responsive to unsolicited scientific and medical information inquiries.

Serve as the primary interface between the healthcare community within your territory and internal GSK teams to gather insights that inform current and future medical and business strategies.

Attend and provide scientific support at medical exhibits and scientific sessions at regional, national, and international medical conferences as needed.

Provide scientific training for GSK sales representatives regarding GSK products and the conditions they treat, utilizing approved sales training materials.

Work closely and collaboratively with commercial colleagues in a cross-functional field model, maintaining clear medical/non-promotional boundaries while maximizing aligned impact for patients and the healthcare system

Why You?

This is a field-based role covering the Canadian territory of Alberta and Saskatchewan, requiring 70% travel and in-person engagement. You will work closely with medical affairs, clinical development, health economics, and commercial colleagues. We welcome candidates from all backgrounds and encourage those with unique perspectives and lived experiences to apply.

Basic Qualifications

We are seeking professionals with the following required skills and qualifications to help us achieve our goals:

An advanced post-graduate scientific degree (MD, PhD, PharmD) is strongly preferred. Candidates with a relevant scientific bachelor’s degree plus significant medical/clinical/industry experience in hepatology, gastroenterology, or related therapeutic areas will also be considered.

Must live in Calgary, Edmonton or Saskatchewan and hold a valid Canadian driver’s license with an acceptable driving record; ability to travel throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan up to approximately 70% of the time is required.

Previous experience in hepatology or gastroenterology in a medical affairs position or academia, or experience as an MSL or medical associate with established relationships/connections with relevant healthcare professionals

Demonstrated ability to apply and leverage scientific and medical information while establishing scientific credibility through peer-to-peer discussion and debate.

Proven ability to build, manage, and prioritize a large geography, including proactive field engagement, territory planning, appointment booking, and follow-up with external experts.

Excellent public speaker, with outstanding scientific presentation skills.

Exceptional interpersonal skills with a focus on collaboration, teamwork, and strategic execution of the medical affairs plan within the territory, while also being able to work independently in the field.

Demonstrated ability to engage senior KOLs, including global-level experts, in meaningful peer-to-peer scientific dialogue.

Knowledge of regulations governing medical information exchange with healthcare professionals within the Canadian pharmaceutical environment.

Sound negotiation, leadership, and organizational skills.

Familiarity with drug reimbursement processes in Canada.

Prior experience managing a large, field-heavy geography (e.g., Western Canada) with high travel demands and complex territory prioritization.

Experience working in close collaboration with commercial colleagues (e.g., cross-functional field “trio” model) while maintaining clear medical/non-promotional boundaries.

Experience presenting and contextualizing complex clinical trial data and publications to clinicians in hepatology or related therapeutic areas (e.g., chronic hepatitis B, liver disease).

How we calculate "similar"

No black box, no LLM guesswork: a deterministic score built from four normalized attributes. Here's this role's own peer group at different match levels, so you can see the mechanism, not just the result.

Every comparison starts from the same 100-point budget: 25 for working in the same function, 40 for the same therapeutic area, 20 for the same or adjacent seniority, 15 for the same country. A dimension we can't confirm on both sides contributes nothing, never a guess, never a free pass.

Unmatched or unknown dimensions score exactly the same: 0 points, never a partial guess. A role we know almost nothing about beyond its function bottoms out at 25%; it never inflates to 100% just because there's little to compare against. Seniority uses a defined ladder (Associate → Manager → Associate Director → Senior → Principal → Director → Senior Director → Executive/VP) so "Director" and "Senior Director" count as adjacent, but "Director" and "Executive/VP" do not.
