About this opportunity

Bring your pharmaceutical marketing expertise to a growing rare disease portfolio where thoughtful choices, connected customer experiences and launch readiness can help improve outcomes for people living with rare and ultra-rare conditions.

Lead across three therapeutic areas, shape portfolio strategy and turn insight into focused action with Alexion.

About AstraZeneca & Alexion Rare Disease

AstraZeneca is a global, science-led biopharmaceutical company transforming treatment across Oncology, CVRM, Respiratory & Immunology and Rare Disease.

Alexion, AstraZeneca Rare Disease is dedicated to advancing care for people living with rare diseases. We work alongside clinicians to support appropriate access and redefine what is possible for patients and their families.

Marketing at Alexion

This is an opportunity to lead marketing across a small, growing portfolio spanning rare neurology, rare tumours and rare bone and endocrine disorders.

You will connect opportunities across brands and lifecycle stages, strengthen external and customer focus, and help the team use digital tools, data and AI responsibly to improve commercial effectiveness.

This full time permanent position is based at the Sydney head office, with hybrid working (3 days/week in office).

What you’ll do

Reporting to the Franchise Head, Australia and New Zealand, you will lead strategic and operational marketing across the portfolio, balancing in-line performance with future launch readiness.

Lead integrated disease plans and long-term portfolio and brand strategies across multiple rare disease brands and lifecycle stages.

Drive commercial readiness for future launches, including segmentation, positioning, messaging, forecasting, governance, and tracking effectiveness.

Own end-to-end marketing execution, including customer insights, brand planning, campaigns, promotional review, budgets, agencies, congresses and sales force enablement.

Design connected omnichannel experiences and use data, analytics and approved AI-enabled approaches to improve decisions, execution and customer engagement.

Partner closely alongside Medical Affairs colleagues, Market Access, Regulatory, Legal, Sales, Commercial Excellence, global teams, Patient Advocacy and external agencies.

Mentor and guide marketing colleagues, build capability and align collaborators across a complex matrix without relying on formal authority.

Essential to the position

Demonstrated pharmaceutical marketing experience, including specialty care, with strong marketing fundamentals across segmentation, positioning, brand planning and campaign optimisation.

Experience managing more than one brand or indication across different lifecycle stages, including launch preparation or commercialisation.

Proven ability to prioritise investments and make informed trade-offs using customer insight, data, forecasting and commercial judgement.

Strong cross-functional leadership and partnership with Medical Affairs and Market Access in a matrix organisation.

Working knowledge of omnichannel strategy, CRM, customer journey mapping, digital marketing and performance measurement.

Clear written and verbal communication, project leadership and the ability to influence a broad range of stakeholders.

Desirable for the role

Experience in rare disease, or an adjacent specialty area such as oncology, neuroscience, endocrinology, immunology or a complex hospital portfolio.

Experience coaching or developing marketing colleagues; formal line management is welcome but not essential.

Practical experience using approved AI tools, digital experimentation or marketing automation to improve commercial efficiency.

A bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, life sciences or a related field; postgraduate qualifications are advantageous.

How we calculate "similar"

No black box, no LLM guesswork: a deterministic score built from four normalized attributes. Here's this role's own peer group at different match levels, so you can see the mechanism, not just the result.

Every comparison starts from the same 100-point budget: 25 for working in the same function, 40 for the same therapeutic area, 20 for the same or adjacent seniority, 15 for the same country. A dimension we can't confirm on both sides contributes nothing, never a guess, never a free pass.

Unmatched or unknown dimensions score exactly the same: 0 points, never a partial guess. A role we know almost nothing about beyond its function bottoms out at 25%; it never inflates to 100% just because there's little to compare against. Seniority uses a defined ladder (Associate → Manager → Associate Director → Senior → Principal → Director → Senior Director → Executive/VP) so "Director" and "Senior Director" count as adjacent, but "Director" and "Executive/VP" do not.
