As the Senior Manager, Data Engineering, you’ll lead the data engineering organization for an assigned business domain and own its strategy, integrated roadmap, delivery, stakeholder alignment, technical governance, and operating performance. You will partner with business and technology leaders to deliver governed, reusable data products and integrations that support operational applications, analytics, semantic layers, machine learning, and AI.

What You’ll Work On

Lead, develop, and retain a domain data engineering organization, including Staff Engineers and contractor resources, with clear goals, decision rights, performance expectations, development plans, and succession strategies.

Own the domain data engineering strategy, priorities, integrated roadmap, delivery commitments, stakeholder outcomes, and operating performance from planning through production support.

Ensure timely resolution of material technical decisions and own priority, delivery, and technical-debt tradeoffs, while enabling Staff Engineers to lead domain technical design and Principal Engineers to provide cross-domain standards and guidance.

Ensure domain data products and integrations align with shared enterprise platform capabilities and meet expectations for data quality, reliability, security, privacy, observability, governance, access, and lifecycle management.

Build transparent relationships with senior business and technology leaders, communicate roadmap status, dependencies, risks, decisions, and tradeoffs, and represent the domain in platform, architecture, and technology-governance decisions.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or a related field, or a high school diploma or General Education Diploma and four years of relevant experience in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.

Eight or more years of progressively responsible experience in data engineering, data platforms, technology delivery, or related leadership roles.

Five or more years of direct people-leadership experience, including management of engineering staff.

Demonstrated experience owning delivery, stakeholder outcomes, and operating performance for a data domain, platform, or program from planning through production support.

Demonstrated technical depth sufficient to direct and evaluate data engineering work and make priority, delivery, and technical-debt tradeoffs involving data architecture, integration patterns, data models, and platform decisions.

Demonstrated ability to lead delivery across direct reports, contractors, and dependent or matrixed teams, including change, contractor, risk, and dependency management.

Experience operating in a regulated or highly controlled data environment and delivering stakeholder outcomes at the required quality and on schedule.

Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with modern data platforms such as Databricks, event-streaming architectures such as Kafka, and cloud data services in AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.

Experience delivering governed data products and semantic capabilities that support analytics, machine learning, and AI use cases across commercial, financial, laboratory, clinical, operational, or customer-facing functions.

Five or more years of experience in a regulated environment governed by standards or regulations such as SOX, HIPAA, CLIA, Good Clinical Practice, FDA, ISO 13485, or IEC 62304.

Experience in life sciences, diagnostics, healthcare, or clinical-laboratory environments.

Experience leading delivery through a combination of internal teams and contractor-based delivery models.

Experience applying data privacy, security, access governance, lineage, retention, and business-continuity practices.

How we calculate "similar"

No black box, no LLM guesswork: a deterministic score built from four normalized attributes. Here's this role's own peer group at different match levels, so you can see the mechanism, not just the result.

Every comparison starts from the same 100-point budget: 25 for working in the same function, 40 for the same therapeutic area, 20 for the same or adjacent seniority, 15 for the same country. A dimension we can't confirm on both sides contributes nothing, never a guess, never a free pass.

Unmatched or unknown dimensions score exactly the same: 0 points, never a partial guess. A role we know almost nothing about beyond its function bottoms out at 25%; it never inflates to 100% just because there's little to compare against. Seniority uses a defined ladder (Associate → Manager → Associate Director → Senior → Principal → Director → Senior Director → Executive/VP) so "Director" and "Senior Director" count as adjacent, but "Director" and "Executive/VP" do not.
