Job Description

Senior Manager, Scientific and Operations Intelligence

Obesity Intelligence & Analytics | Amgen India

Reports to: Director, Scientific and Operations Intelligence

Role Summary

This is an India-based global role supporting Amgen's global obesity business. The Senior Manager will help shape the capability and translate its vision into high-quality intelligence work across scientific and operational priorities, including Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, R&D, Supply Chain, and Operations.

The Senior Manager will lead one or more priority initiatives from problem framing through recommendation, applying data, analytics, structured thinking, and practical judgment to help stakeholders understand implications, evaluate options, anticipate risks, and act with clarity.

Success requires the ability to navigate ambiguity, structure complex business questions, and translate them into high-quality analytical work through a combination of direct contribution, team leadership, and partner collaboration. Strong analytical judgment, scientific curiosity, business acumen, and stakeholder management are essential.

As the capability grows, the Senior Manager will help coach Managers, Senior Associates, Associates, and partner resources while raising the quality, speed, and usefulness of the team's analytical delivery.

Key Responsibilities

1. Lead Priority Scientific and Operations Intelligence Initiatives

Translate priorities into clear initiative plans, stakeholder alignment, and measurable deliverables.

Own multiple strategic initiatives end-to-end, including analytical recommendations and decision support for prioritized strategic initiatives.

Apply analytics and intelligence to scientific and operational priorities across Amgen's global obesity organization.

Manage regular-cadence progress, stakeholder inputs, partner contributions, and issue escalation.

Surface questions, execution issues, trade-offs, and implications early enough to influence the work and the choices in front of leaders.

Ensure outputs are practical, timely, and useful rather than theoretical, overly academic, or status-reporting oriented.

2. Scientific, Medical and Evidence Analytics

Partner with Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, R&D, and evidence-generation stakeholders to apply structured problem solving to high-priority analytical needs and strategic priorities.

Synthesize scientific, clinical, and medical information into clear recommendations that reflect the implications of emerging evidence, regulatory developments, competitive activity, and scientific innovation.

Support understanding of evolving treatment paradigms, patient needs, evidence gaps, and scientific developments across obesity and related therapeutic areas.

Review analytical outputs for accuracy, logic, clarity, and relevance to the stakeholder question being addressed.

3. Supply Chain, Operations and Readiness Analytics

Support analytical needs related to supply chain, manufacturing, operations, launch readiness, and organizational preparedness.

Develop analytical assessments of demand signals, supply readiness, operational execution, and readiness milestones.

Partner with Supply Chain and Operations leaders to support scenario planning, risk mitigation, and readiness assessments.

Assess operational risks, supply constraints, timing considerations, and strategic dependencies early enough to influence planning, readiness, and execution.

Translate operational complexity into practical implications that stakeholders can understand and act upon.

4. Analytical Delivery and Initiative Leadership

Structure ambiguous business questions, define the analytical approach, and guide work from initial problem framing through recommendation.

Coordinate work across internal team members, external partners, vendors, and subject-matter experts to ensure high-quality delivery.

Challenge assumptions, pressure-test analyses, and ensure conclusions are supported by evidence and sound logic.

Synthesize diverse information into practical recommendations that help stakeholders evaluate options, understand trade-offs, and determine clear next steps.

5. External Landscape and Emerging Opportunities

Monitor scientific, competitive, regulatory, policy, healthcare-system, and market developments that may influence obesity strategy, execution, operations, or future opportunities.

Assess how emerging trends, opportunities, and risks may influence scientific, medical, operational, and business priorities.

Support stakeholders in evaluating potential response options.

Establish practical approaches that improve awareness of important external developments without creating unnecessary reporting burden.

6. Team Leadership, Coaching and Quality

Coach Managers, Senior Associates, Associates, and partner resources as the team scales and the portfolio of work expands.

Set clear expectations for analytical quality, structured problem solving, stakeholder communication, and delivery discipline.

Create an environment that promotes intellectual curiosity, analytical rigor, accountability, and encourages the team to think beyond assigned deliverables toward the underlying business problem.

Develop future leaders by strengthening judgment, communication, business acumen, and fostering an inclusive, collaborative, high-performing team culture.

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree and 4+ years of relevant experience; OR

Master's degree and 6+ years of relevant experience; OR

Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced degree in Business, Strategy, Analytics, Public Health, Life Sciences, Medicine, Pharmacy, Engineering, Economics, or a related field.

8+ years of experience in strategy, business insights, analytics, consulting, business operations, Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, R&D strategy, supply chain strategy, or related functions within pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, healthcare, or life sciences.

Experience leading complex analytical initiatives from problem framing through recommendation in a global, matrixed environment.

Strong understanding of pharmaceutical development, healthcare ecosystems, scientific and medical strategy, supply and operational readiness, and business decision-making processes.

Ability to work hands-on with data and analyses while also guiding internal team members, external partners, or vendors.

Experience synthesizing large volumes of information into clear, actionable recommendations for senior stakeholders.

Comfort reviewing analytical approaches, challenging methodology, identifying data quality issues, and improving the clarity of outputs.

Experience with scientific, clinical, medical, supply, operations, external intelligence, or healthcare data sources is strongly preferred.

Demonstrated ability to operate in ambiguity, influence stakeholders, and manage competing priorities without over-reliance on formal authority.

Strong structured problem solving, executive communication, storytelling, and stakeholder management skills.

Experience coaching analysts, managers, consultants, or partner resources is preferred.

Strong intellectual curiosity and passion for solving complex scientific, operational, and business problems.

How we calculate "similar"

No black box, no LLM guesswork: a deterministic score built from four normalized attributes. Here's this role's own peer group at different match levels, so you can see the mechanism, not just the result.

Every comparison starts from the same 100-point budget: 25 for working in the same function, 40 for the same therapeutic area, 20 for the same or adjacent seniority, 15 for the same country. A dimension we can't confirm on both sides contributes nothing, never a guess, never a free pass.

Unmatched or unknown dimensions score exactly the same: 0 points, never a partial guess. A role we know almost nothing about beyond its function bottoms out at 25%; it never inflates to 100% just because there's little to compare against. Seniority uses a defined ladder (Associate → Manager → Associate Director → Senior → Principal → Director → Senior Director → Executive/VP) so "Director" and "Senior Director" count as adjacent, but "Director" and "Executive/VP" do not.
