What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role, you will join Amgen BC’s affinity team in In Vitro Pharmacology group to discover novel therapeutic antibodies.

Our small team specializes in designing and conducting both high throughput and smaller, custom biophysical screening assays to rank and characterize both discovery and later stage large molecule therapeutic programs. The individual will join a team of dedicated scientists to discover and characterize molecules that have the potential to help patients in need. A well-suited applicant will have great laboratory skills, a strong analytical mindset, deep scientific curiosity, and a can-do attitude. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development, optimization, and implementation of various biophysical based screening assays for novel therapeutic candidates with guidance from the lead Scientist.

Essential Functions:

Conduct routine and novel affinity/kinetic characterization screens on all relevant platforms (Carterra, Octet, Biacore, KinExA), including custom assays and assay development

Instrument housekeeping, reagent ordering, troubleshooting

Data summarizing and reporting (ELN, Screener, Benchling, slide decks), timely documentation

What we expect of you

We are all different, yet we all use our unique contributions to serve patients. The highly motivated professional we seek is a collaborative team player with these qualifications.

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree

OR

Master’s degree & 3 years of related experience

OR

Bachelor’s degree & 5 years of directly related experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Deep understanding of molecular binding interaction theory (SPR, BLI), hands on experience and instrumentation nuances – specifically Biacore, ideally 1K/8K series, KinExA experience strongly preferred

A good understanding of protein chemistry and/or a general biochemistry background; antibody experience desired

Experience with mammalian cell culture (CHO, HEK) and transfection; on cell affinity assays or FACS is preferred

Experience with data analysis using PRISM, Codex and custom R/Python is an asset

A keen eye and a strong analytical mindset, with an interest and aptitude for DoE tasks (e.g. assay dev/troubleshooting) and data analysis and interpretation

Ability to multitask and stay organized in the face of shifting priorities without losing focus

How we calculate "similar"

No black box, no LLM guesswork: a deterministic score built from four normalized attributes. Here's this role's own peer group at different match levels, so you can see the mechanism, not just the result.

Every comparison starts from the same 100-point budget: 25 for working in the same function, 40 for the same therapeutic area, 20 for the same or adjacent seniority, 15 for the same country. A dimension we can't confirm on both sides contributes nothing, never a guess, never a free pass.

Unmatched or unknown dimensions score exactly the same: 0 points, never a partial guess. A role we know almost nothing about beyond its function bottoms out at 25%; it never inflates to 100% just because there's little to compare against. Seniority uses a defined ladder (Associate → Manager → Associate Director → Senior → Principal → Director → Senior Director → Executive/VP) so "Director" and "Senior Director" count as adjacent, but "Director" and "Executive/VP" do not.
