Job Description:

Purpose of the position

The MSL is a member of the affiliate medical department. He/she is a field-based professional with scientific, clinical, and therapeutic area expertise who is responsible for supporting, on a non-promotional basis, medical and scientific initiatives for marketed and pipeline products.

The MSL works in coordination with the rest of the medical unit to meet the medical department objectives. He/she participates in the identification of local opportunities, using his/her network of contacts, knowledge of therapeutic areas and health characteristics of the population in each area. Consequently, the MSL has responsibility in the development and implementation of the scientific activities and the clinical plan.

The MSL must maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant scientific information (by performing literature searches, participation in medical congresses and conferences of relevance to Ipsen’s disease and therapeutic area interests).

The MSL is expected to comply with all Ipsen SOPs, Policies, Directives, and relevant local guidelines.

Main responsibilities and tasks

Establish and foster professional collaborations with the Healthcare community:

Map the scientific expertise: identify and complete Thought Leaders (TL) database in the disease area in accordance with the Global MSL Directive and the TL Tiering Process and Maintain a updated medical profiling database of HCPs and KTLs

Proactively provide fair and balanced scientific exchanges with TL to explore mutual clinical and scientific interests, insights generation, scientific/educational meetings (congresses, symposia, etc.), potential research collaborations

Disseminate scientific data as appropriate to HCPs in response to requests, in accordance with applicable laws

Identify opportunities for collaboration with TL when aligned with Ipsen strategy

Develop and enhance scientific and educational collaborations with Healthcare Professionals (HCP) within the Healthcare community and act as a medical contact for TL and external medical experts

Reactively respond to unsolicited and documented queries from HCP

Develop and/or implement unbiased and non‐promotional scientific exchange meetings and educational activities:

Provide scientific/educational presentations to HCP:

‐ Reactively: on Ipsen products (on‐label and off‐label indications), on compounds in development

‐ Proactively: on disease area management (excluding single‐product presentation)

Organise or support legitimate scientific exchange meetings

Contribute to implement medical education programs in the field

Contribute to the scientific publication program, if required

Organize satellite symposia in Regional (in‐country) congresses

Organize and participate in the distribution and presentation of non-promotional materials

Provide scientific and medical content for, and participate in, the preparation and delivery of presentations by KTLs and HCPs speaking on behalf of Ipsen in educational programs and at other meetings

Generate and share insight from HCP to nurture Ipsen’s strategy

Collect, analyse, and report actionable insight from HCP related to disease state, unmet medical needs, local guidelines, therapeutic trends, competitive activities, compounds in development and the broader healthcare environment

If appropriate, organise or support Advisory Boards at Regional level (in‐country)

Attend and report insights from major National and Regional medical congresses

Engage and collaborate on specific initiatives with patient organisations in accordance with the Global Guidance on Interactions with Patient Organisations and individual patients

Contribute to the dissemination of the information within the Company where appropriate

Report spontaneous adverse events and product‐related quality complaints in accordance to global and local SOP

Ensure that Unsolicited requests for medical information from a HCP/care givers/consumers regarding an Ipsen product (either marketed or development products) associated or not with an adverse event or product quality complaint are captured, handled, reviewed and responded through the current process and local database for Medical Information.

Support to clinical development & ISS (data generation):

Coordinate and facilitate unsolicited Investigator‐Sponsored Study (ISS) requests from submission until completion, presentation, and publication, in alignment with Medical Affairs’ objectives

Support internal medical review and facilitate processing of unsolicited Externally Sponsored Study (ESS) requests.

Identify opportunities to generate real‐world‐evidence data

Ensure internal cross‐functional collaborations as a scientific partner

With the local office‐based Medical Affairs department to:

Contribute to the development of the Local Annual Medical Plan (LAMP)

Develop standard responses if required (in coordination with Medical Information)

With the commercial staff (Marketing or Sales) to:

Provide scientific expertise and training to commercial staff as required

Review and approve promotional materials in accordance with the local SOP if required

Contribute to the review and approval of non‐promotional materials in accordance with the local SOP if required if

Ensure speakers briefing for promotional meetings if required

With Market Access department to:

Respond to requests to support hospital formulary submissions and upon request to present the data on Ipsen products

Respond to scientific inquiries to deliver scientific presentations on the disease area and on the product

Exprience / Qualifications

Etudes / Certifications / Expérience:

Physician (Mandatory).

Preferably minimum 4 years of experience in pharmaceutical industry

Ideally proven experience and successful track record as an MSL or medical department professional in a previous company

Ideally, experience in one or more respective therapeutic areas associated with Ipsen’s portfolio

Experience in delivery of scientific presentations and development of relationships with Thought Leaders is strongly preferred

Ideally, knowledge in data analysis and statistics for purpose of understanding clinical study results

Computer literacy

Ideally, current working knowledge of legal, regulatory, and compliance regulations and guidelines relevant to industry interactions with health-care professionals

Languag es :

Expert/fluent communicator in their local language and excellent knowledge of written and spoken scientific English

Required competencies

Demonstrates scientific acumen and sound medical judgement which provides value to Ipsen and leads to sustainable relationships with HCPs.

Maintains highly developed interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

Demonstrates and ability to build and maintain a strong network of effective scientific relationships with stakeholders and maintain an understanding for HCPs, to achieve trusted advisor status.

Is an engaging presenter/trainer, impactful and memorable, having gravitas with medics and non-medics alike and strong communication, networking and stakeholder skills.

Can understand and implement appropriate elements of medical strategy, whilst understanding how to be creative & compliant at the same time.

Demonstrates excellent time management skills and can manage complex and to adapt to new circumstances and ideas.  Demonstrates an ability to be entrepreneurial and able to work in a highly dynamic environment.
