About this opportunity

Job Overview

The MSL role is field based customer facing role, activities should be Key medical expert (KME) focused with the intent to maximize medical one on one interactions with HCPs. Over70% field-related activities (face to face and virtual) is expected in the role

Acts as a scientific expert knowledgeable of Biogen products, disease state and competitors

Establishes long term scientific/strategic relationships with leading specialists (physicians nurses, allied health), and with related medical societies and academic centers of excellence

Ensures KMEs and organizations have access to relevant scientific information

Facilitates KME involvement in educational forums and advisory boards to optimize scientific knowledge exchange

Serves as an important partner to internal stakeholders through communication of relevant information

Principal Accountabilities

1.Key Medical Experts (KMEs) Engagement

Identify KMEs in specified therapeutic area and work in collaboration with respective commercial counterparts in engaging KMEs from a medical perspective

Develop, maintain and implement KME engagement plans to build and maintain strong scientific relationships such that Biogen is recognized as an industry partner of choice

Plan KME visits and utilize the CRM database to record HCP interactions

Provide current, accurate and balanced scientific education to HCPs and facilitate data discussions in relevant therapeutic areas

Provide scientific presentations to individual physicians or groups of physicians, e.g. scientific seminars, round table, journal clubs

Source and brief international and local speakers for national and state meetings according to internal process

Act as a liaison between investigators and Biogen, reactively gather clinician driven ideas for data generation activities (IITs, SRAs)

2. Internal collaboration

Work with relevant commercial counterparts to address specific regional needs from a medical perspective in alignment with both medical and commercial brand plans

Record all healthcare professional (HCP) interactions and track MSL activity in the CRM database

Participate in respective integrated brand team meetings to provide in-field medical updates, trends, insights and competitor intelligence

Contribute to in-field medical training of Account Executive (AE)s and be available as a medical resource for the Sales team

Support Medical Manager in the coordination of advisory board meetings/steering committees, including speaker briefings

Collaborate with relevant medical and commercial team/s to develop strategy and execute tactics on communication of complex scientific information to relevant healthcare professionals

Support Medical Managers with respect to clinical trial execution e. g. site identification, Site Initiation visits

Regularly (at least monthly) liaise with other medical and commercial team/s to ensure consistency and alignment in strategy/tactics

3.Scientific Data Knowledge and communication

Collaborate with Medical Managers to generate high quality approved medical and scientific presentations aligned to medical strategy

Keep abreast of relevant medical literature. Review Biogen literature alerts and work with Product Managers and SFE responsible for education of AEs on relevant literature alerts

Discuss, analyze and educate on appropriate medical and scientific publications and clinical study findings in collaboration with Medical Manager

As per requested attend national and international conferences and provide a medical summary of these conferences to internal stakeholders

Provide scientific presentations to individual physicians or groups of physicians, e.g. scientific seminars, round table, journal clubs

4.Compliance

Ensure speaker briefings, contracts and slide review processes adhere to SOP

Maintain compliance within the Japan and Biogen frameworks and codes of conduct

Maintain 100% training compliance on all allocated courses and internal SOPs

Collaborate in a compliant manner with Biogen stakeholders

Have a strong understanding of industry rules, legal guidance and a desire to follow a compliance and ethical pathway

Have the clarity and depth of understanding around compliance guardrails which allows for compliance empowered interactions. Be able to make the right judgement calls at the moment.

Minimum Education Requirements

Life science background

Master's degree (life science) required, PhD preferred

Sufficient command of English to perform the job

Minimum Experience Requirements

3 years of working experience in the pharmaceutical industry preferred

Medical affairs experience preferred; MSL experience best

AD experience preferred

Therapeutic area: specialty care preferred; neuroscience best

Knowledge & Skills Requirements
