MAINTENANCE OPERATIONS AND EXCELLENCE LEAD (m/f/d)
Bayer HealthCare Manufacturing is looking for brilliant and motivated Maintenance Operations and Excellence Lead.
He/she will lead the Maintenance Operations & Excellence Team within the Engineering, Maintenance and Excellence (EMEX) cluster at the pharma manufacturing site of Garbagnate Milanese.
The position drives maintenance and continuous improvement activities towards excellence in the manufacturing departments through the engagement and development of the Team, in line with the Company mission “Health for all, hunger for none” and the site vision “We work with passion and excellence every day to improve health for all”.
MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSABILITIES:
Lead and develop a diversified Maintenance Team, ensuring the availability of all technical capabilities required to deliver value to products and customers while fostering a strong culture of ownership and accountability.
Act as a catalyst for cross‑functional collaboration across the site, bringing people together on key improvement initiatives, challenging the status quo pragmatically, and enabling balanced, risk‑aware innovation.
Empower, coach, and develop the Maintenance Team by prioritizing growth in both technical and soft skills and ensuring effective collaboration with stakeholders to design and implement value‑adding solutions.
Define and communicate a clear and compelling vision for the evolution of maintenance towards world‑class manufacturing standards, ensuring alignment with site strategy and stakeholder expectations.
Drive continuous technical improvement in line with the Product Supply System (PSS) Progressive Maintenance (PM) methodology, targeting zero losses, optimized costs, and the reduction of unplanned downtime KPI to zero over defined timeframes.
Maximize equipment availability and technical performance across manufacturing departments by ensuring effective preventive maintenance planning, driving thorough root cause analysis, enabling prompt repairs and upgrades, and maintaining full inspection readiness.
Design, implement, and continuously evolve a robust maintenance framework that includes clear service standards, performance indicators to highlight gaps, and structured problem‑solving and root cause approaches.
Serve as a key interface with the global EMEX cluster within Pharma Product Supply, as well as with local EMEX teams and site stakeholders, for maintenance‑related initiatives and continuous technical improvement.
Ensure full compliance with Health, Safety, Environment, and Energy responsibilities, directly supervising the team and acting as a role model in these areas.
WHO YOU ARE:
Bachelor's degree in engineering and at least 5 years of experience in the maintenance business or technical undergraduate degree and at least 7 of experience in the maintenance business
Proven experience in leading teams with diverse technical capabilities in complex manufacturing environments.
Strong leadership profile characterized by Vision, Architecture, Coaching, and Catalyzing (VACC), supported by effective communication and change management skills.
Solid and practical experience in implementing lean management methodologies within technical or maintenance organizations.
Proactive, structured, and creative problem‑solving mindset with a strong drive for continuous improvement.
Digital mindset and intrinsic motivation to improve processes, performance, and people capabilities.
Strong hands‑on experience in manufacturing and packaging technologies, including mechanics, electrical systems, automation, and pneumatics, with experience in pharmaceutical, chemical, food and beverage, or cosmetics industries considered a strong plus.
Required on-site presence in Garbagnate Milanese, with residence/domicile nearby
Fluent in English and Italian mother tongue
