About this opportunity

JOB PURPOSE

Malaysia is entering an important phase of growth, with Oncology and Specialty expected to become increasingly significant contributors to the future portfolio.

The BU Head – Oncology & Specialty is accountable for building and leading an integrated business across two distinct therapy-area portfolios, defining the long-term growth strategy, delivering sustainable business performance and preparing the organization for multiple future launches and pipeline opportunities.

The role requires more than functional commercial leadership. It requires an enterprise leader capable of integrating different businesses, making portfolio-level trade-offs, leading through ambiguity and change, and mobilizing multiple functions behind common outcomes.

As a member of the Malaysia Leadership Team, the role will partner closely with Medical, Market Access, Regulatory, Finance, Commercial Operations and Regional/Global teams to accelerate patient impact, strengthen launch excellence and build a high-performing organization capable of delivering today's priorities while preparing for future growth.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy, Portfolio & P&L Leadership

Define and execute the long-term strategy for the integrated Oncology & Specialty portfolio, translating Malaysia's growth ambition into clear portfolio choices and priorities.

Own full P&L accountability and deliver sustainable revenue, profitability, market share and patient-impact objectives.

Make evidence-based investment and resource trade-offs across current brands, launches and future assets, balancing short-term performance with long-term value creation.

Launch & Future Portfolio Readiness

Lead organizational and commercial readiness for future Oncology and Specialty launches, indication expansions and pipeline opportunities.

Translate Global/Regional asset strategies into differentiated local plans, anticipating market, access, customer and capability requirements.

Establish strong cross-functional launch governance, milestones and accountability and proactively remove barriers to successful execution.

Transformation & Enterprise Leadership

Lead the integration of Oncology and Specialty into a cohesive, high-performing BU while recognizing differences in portfolio maturity, customer environment and business model.

Create clarity through ambiguity and change; challenge established ways of working and lead simplification where it enables stronger outcomes.

Operate with an enterprise mindset, contributing beyond the BU and making decisions in the interests of the overall Malaysia business.

Commercial, Customer & External Leadership

Build a customer-centric commercial model integrating Sales, Marketing and Omnichannel execution with clear accountability and strong use of customer and market insights.

Maintain close connection with customers and field teams, ensuring strategic choices are grounded in market reality and patient needs.

Understand Malaysia's evolving healthcare environment, patient pathways and access dynamics, and build trusted relationships with relevant external stakeholders.

Cross-Functional & Matrix Leadership

Mobilize Medical, Market Access, Regulatory, Finance, Commercial Operations and other partners behind common business outcomes, influencing effectively without relying on hierarchy.

Build productive Regional and Global relationships, advocate for Malaysia's priorities and resolve competing priorities constructively.

Demonstrate strong governance, sound judgement and responsible decision-making while enabling speed and accountability.

People, Talent & Culture

Build and lead a diverse, high-performing organization with clear expectations, accountability and empowered decision-making.

Coach and develop leaders, strengthen succession and build the capabilities required for the future portfolio.

Create a culture combining high standards with trust, openness, constructive challenge and ambition, where teams learn from setbacks while remaining accountable for outcomes.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

Significant leadership experience within pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, healthcare or another relevant complex commercial environment, including meaningful P&L/business accountability.

Proven ability to develop strategy and translate it into sustained business performance, including making portfolio/resource trade-offs across competing priorities.

Demonstrated experience leading complex cross-functional teams in a matrix organisation and influencing stakeholders beyond direct reporting lines.

Strong track record of leading through change, ambiguity, integration or business transformation.

Strong people leadership track record, including building capability, developing talent and leading high-performing teams.

Proven ability to operate with senior Regional/Global stakeholders and contribute beyond functional responsibilities through enterprise or broader leadership roles.

Preferred

Oncology and/or Specialty Care experience.

Experience leading multiple therapeutic areas, portfolios or business models.

Experience with new product/indication launches or significant pipeline assets.

How we calculate "similar"

No black box, no LLM guesswork: a deterministic score built from four normalized attributes. Here's this role's own peer group at different match levels, so you can see the mechanism, not just the result.

Every comparison starts from the same 100-point budget: 25 for working in the same function, 40 for the same therapeutic area, 20 for the same or adjacent seniority, 15 for the same country. A dimension we can't confirm on both sides contributes nothing, never a guess, never a free pass.

Unmatched or unknown dimensions score exactly the same: 0 points, never a partial guess. A role we know almost nothing about beyond its function bottoms out at 25%; it never inflates to 100% just because there's little to compare against. Seniority uses a defined ladder (Associate → Manager → Associate Director → Senior → Principal → Director → Senior Director → Executive/VP) so "Director" and "Senior Director" count as adjacent, but "Director" and "Executive/VP" do not.
