AI Engineer
Own the commercial layer that turns predictive output into something a commercial team actually uses. If you like building agentic AI systems and shipping them as real, production grade applications people touch every day, read on.
Your new role
You'll join our newly established data, insights and AI team in GCX, turning predictive intelligence into GenAI powered tools the commercial frontline relies on. You'll design and build agentic workflows and RAG pipelines, and take them from prototype through to secure, scalable production, working across the full stack from backend orchestration to the interfaces business users interact with.
You'll operate within Lundbeck's federated AI engineering model, where GCX leads commercial use cases, domain-specific engineering and business outcomes. The role will work closely with the Enterprise AI Solutions & Engineering team, leveraging shared AI platforms, architecture patterns, engineering standards and reusable capabilities, while ensuring commercial solutions are production-ready and aligned with enterprise requirements.
Your responsibilities will include:
Generative AI and agentic development
Designing and building commercial GenAI applications on enterprise LLM platforms
Building commercial agentic AI workflows
Developing and optimizing RAG architectures for business and technical use cases
Integrating vector databases and semantic search to improve knowledge retrieval accuracy
Building AI copilots, assistants and workflow automation
Applying prompt engineering, evaluation and tuning to improve response quality, and optimizing model usage cost
Integration and orchestration
Implementing Model Context Protocol (MCP) integrations to connect LLM applications with tools, data sources and business systems
Designing reusable orchestration patterns across APIs, databases, files and enterprise knowledge repositories
Designing context management, memory and tool calling strategies for AI agents
Collaborating with the Enterprise AI Solutions & Engineering team to align commercial AI solutions with enterprise architecture, platform standards, security requirements and production readiness practices
Contributing domain-specific patterns and learnings back into shared enterprise AI capabilities where relevant
Backend and frontend development for AI use cases
Developing scalable backend services using Python (FastAPI, Flask or Django), RESTful APIs and microservices
Designing and optimizing SQL databases for application and reporting needs
Implementing authentication, authorization, logging and secure coding practices
Building responsive web applications and dashboards using React/Next.js and TypeScript
Integrating AI powered experiences into enterprise applications, working closely with product and business stakeholders
Operations (long-term)
Containerizing services and deploying via cloud platforms
Managing environments and automating deployment through CI/CD
Monitoring performance, reliability and security in production
Interpreting and visualizing model outputs for internal stakeholders, explaining AI concepts in plain terms
Your future team
You'll join GCX's newly established data, insights and AI team, responsible for the commercial intelligence layer: building competitively differentiating predictive intelligence loops. We stay close to the business to make sure what we build actually gets used, in service of reaching millions of people living with serious chronic diseases. The team is young enough that you'll help shape its culture and ways of working. This is a build from scratch opportunity, not a seat on an established team.
The position is based in Copenhagen, Denmark.
What you bring to the team
Degree in computer science, AI, machine learning or a related quantitative field
Several years of software development or/and ML Engineering experience with strong Python and SQL
Hands on experience building GenAI, LLM or AI enabled applications, including RAG pipelines and LLM integration patterns using LangChain, LangGraph or similar frameworks
Solid understanding of NLP, transformer architectures and software engineering fundamentals and design patterns
Frontend experience with React and TypeScript, and the ability to build interfaces business users actually want to use
Experience with Git, CI/CD, Docker and Kubernetes
Ability to design secure, scalable, production ready enterprise applications
Strong communication skills; comfortable explaining complex AI concepts to non technical stakeholders; fluency in English
Nice to have
Experience with MCP based integrations connecting LLM applications to enterprise tools and data
Experience with Azure AI Search, Elasticsearch, OpenSearch or similar vector/semantic search platforms
Experience with infrastructure as code
Experience with TensorFlow or PyTorch
Experience with .NET/C#
Experience in pharma, healthcare, life sciences or commercial analytics

How we calculate "similar"
No black box, no LLM guesswork: a deterministic score built from four normalized attributes. Here's this role's own peer group at different match levels, so you can see the mechanism, not just the result.
Every comparison starts from the same 100-point budget: 25 for working in the same function, 40 for the same therapeutic area, 20 for the same or adjacent seniority, 15 for the same country. A dimension we can't confirm on both sides contributes nothing, never a guess, never a free pass.
0 points, never a partial guess. A role we know almost nothing about beyond its function bottoms out at 25%; it never inflates to 100% just because there's little to compare against. Seniority uses a defined ladder (Associate → Manager → Associate Director → Senior → Principal → Director → Senior Director → Executive/VP) so "Director" and "Senior Director" count as adjacent, but "Director" and "Executive/VP" do not.
