Department: Drug Delivery Innovation (DDI), Global Manufacturing & Supply (GMS)
Location: Hillerød, Denmark
Your impact begins here
As Advanced Product Development Engineer within Primary Packaging, you will shape the primary packaging for Novo's next generation of pre-filled syringes. You will take ownership of technical areas, from new packaging systems to marketed products, working side by side with colleagues across drug and device development, production and supply chain. Your work helps treatments reach people living with serious chronic diseases safely and reliably.
What you’ll bring
You bring hands-on technical experience and enjoy turning design challenges into packaging that works in real life.
An MSc or BSc in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry or another relevant natural science or technical field.
Extensive experience in primary packaging for pharmaceutical products, or in medical device or combination product development. Technical depth and fit for the work matter most.
Experience with requirements and specifications, verification, traceability and risk management in a regulated medical device or pharma environment (GMP/GxP/ISO).
The ability to independently own a technical area, from assessment and decision to documentation and implementation in the product team and stakeholder landscape.
Good stakeholder management skills.
Fluent written and spoken English.
A creative mindset, pride in delivering on your milestones, and energy for working across functions in a dynamic environment.
Useful, but not essential:
Experience with pre-filled syringes, syringes, cartridges, vials, stoppers or container closure systems, including Container Closure Integrity.
Knowledge of how drugs and packaging materials interact, such as coatings, plastics, glues, silicone oil, and chemical and physical drug stability.
Experience with ISO 15378, ISO 13485 and/or ISO 14971, or with systems engineering.
Lifecycle management experience, including system ownership for marketed or late-stage products.
Ability to provide technical direction, bring colleagues and stakeholders together, and drive technical activities towards successful delivery.
Hands-on experience with technical drawings, tolerances and technical evaluation.
What you’ll do
You will help the team take on a wider portfolio of device projects, including new and larger pre-filled syringe formats and the lifecycle management of existing products.
Develop primary packaging systems for parenteral administration, such as syringes and vials, from ideation to drug product launch.
Bring in new primary packaging solutions, including ones not previously used at Novo, or insource existing solutions from external suppliers.
Document design requirements, safety risk management, mitigations and testing, so that Clinical Trial Applications can be submitted.
Ensure the right design, material, technical performance, processability and supply chain for each packaging system.
Support marketed products through system ownership and late-stage changes.
Scout the market, meet suppliers, and coordinate your own workstream with stakeholders to deliver on time.
Who you’ll work with
You will join the Pre-Filled Syringe (PFS) Primary Packaging Development team in Drug Delivery Innovation, part of Global Manufacturing & Supply, based in Hillerød with state-of-the-art R&D facilities. The team brings together developers, specialists and project managers who focus on primary packaging for pre-filled syringes.
In Global Manufacturing & Supply, colleagues work across the value chain from drug and device development to marketed Novo products. Your closest partners will be colleagues in Drug and Device Development, Production and Supply Chain, along with project managers and external suppliers. They bring a constructive, collaborative mindset and offer highly competent sparring on your ideas.
Drug Delivery Innovation brings project management, engineering and technical functions together, so you will see how a diverse portfolio of drug, combination product and device projects comes together.
What you can expect here
You will work in a growing, international department where your expertise is valued and you are trusted to own your technical area. You will build new skills across drug and device development, production and supply chain, grow alongside experienced colleagues, and explore how packaging can contribute to a more circular economy.

How we calculate "similar"
No black box, no LLM guesswork: a deterministic score built from four normalized attributes. Here's this role's own peer group at different match levels, so you can see the mechanism, not just the result.
Every comparison starts from the same 100-point budget: 25 for working in the same function, 40 for the same therapeutic area, 20 for the same or adjacent seniority, 15 for the same country. A dimension we can't confirm on both sides contributes nothing, never a guess, never a free pass.
0 points, never a partial guess. A role we know almost nothing about beyond its function bottoms out at 25%; it never inflates to 100% just because there's little to compare against. Seniority uses a defined ladder (Associate → Manager → Associate Director → Senior → Principal → Director → Senior Director → Executive/VP) so "Director" and "Senior Director" count as adjacent, but "Director" and "Executive/VP" do not.
