Job Description:
DePuy Synthes is recruiting for a Business Development Manager, located in Shanghai China.
DPS China is seeking a New Business Development Manager to support the identification, evaluation, and execution of external growth opportunities within China. Working closely with the Strategic Support Lead, cross‑functional commercial teams, and regional/global partners, this role will focus on partnership scouting, market and technology assessment, and transaction support across medical device, healthcare technology, and adjacent innovation areas.
This role is an execution‑focused position that plays a critical part in translating DPS China growth priorities into actionable business development initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Opportunity Scouting
Identify and analyze new external business opportunities, including partnerships, licensing, and early-stage acquisition targets aligned with DPS China strategy
Conduct market, competitive, and technology landscape analyses to support opportunity prioritization
Track emerging trends in medical devices, healthcare technology, and digital health within China
Strategy & Analytical Support
Support the development of inorganic growth strategies for DPS China in collaboration with Strategic Support, commercial teams, and regional/global stakeholders
Build and maintain market, financial, and valuation models to assess business potential and risks
Prepare clear, structured analyses and recommendations for internal review
Deal Execution & Cross‑Functional Coordination
Support cross‑functional deal teams (Commercial, Marketing, R&D, Finance, Legal, Regulatory) throughout evaluation and execution phases
Assist with due diligence activities, including data gathering, analysis, and coordination with internal and external parties
Help prepare investment memos, presentations, and management materials for leadership review
Stakeholder Management & Communication
Prepare high‑quality presentations and written materials in English and Mandarin for internal stakeholders
Maintain effective working relationships with internal teams and selected external partners
Ensure all activities align with company governance, compliance requirements, and regulations
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, Science, Engineering, Business, or related fields from a reputable university
Advanced degree (MBA, Master’s) or professional training is a plus
Experience
Experience in business development, strategy, consulting, venture, or commercial roles within healthcare, medical devices, or life sciences
Solid understanding of medical device or healthcare technology ecosystems in China
Demonstrated ability to perform market analysis, financial modeling, and business case development
Strong attention to detail, structured thinking, and high ownership of assigned workstreams
Proven ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across functions
Clear and confident communication skills (written and verbal) in English and Mandarin
Proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel
Johnson & Johnson announced plans to separate our Orthopaedics business to establish a standalone orthopaedics company, operating as DePuy Synthes. The process of the planned separation is anticipated to be completed within 18 to 24 months, subject to legal requirements, including consultation with works councils and other employee representative bodies, as may be required, regulatory approvals and other customary conditions and approvals.
