About this opportunity

The Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Nephrology is the senior commercial leader responsible for the strategic direction, commercial performance, and long-term growth of Voyxact. This role is accountable for maximizing patient impact and business results through integrated leadership of marketing, sales, thought leader engagement, market development, and commercial execution.

As the commercial lead for the brand, the Vice President will guide the transition from early launch to sustainable growth by accelerating patient identification and diagnosis, optimizing treatment adoption, enhancing the customer experience, and ensuring strong cross-functional execution across the organization.

The Vice President will lead a team of commercial leaders, including those responsible for the marketing, field sales, field operations and thought leader liaison functions as well as lead the cross functional brand team and overall PnL responsibility for the brand. The individual will oversee development of national and regional business planning with the objective of meeting or exceeding Net Sales, Operating Income, market share and engagement targets.  The VP will also ensure successful implementation of action plans and objectives where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of our customers, our products, the competitive environment, technology and economic or social implications of organization activities.

 

Brand Strategy & Commercial Leadership

Develop and execute the long-term commercial strategy for the brand, ensuring alignment with business unit objectives and patient needs.

Establish annual and multi-year strategic plans that drive sustainable growth, patient impact, and business performance.

Serve as the primary commercial leader and strategic advisor for the brand within the organization.

Continuously assess market dynamics, competitive trends, customer insights, and emerging opportunities to optimize brand performance.

Lead lifecycle planning and identify opportunities to expand the treated patient population and maximize long-term value.

Serve on the Nephrology, Immunology and Rare Disease business unit leadership team (NIR LT).

Sales & Marketing Leadership

Provide executive leadership and oversight of all sales, marketing, commercial scientific communications, and customer engagement activities.

Ensure alignment between brand strategy, field execution, customer engagement, and business objectives.

Oversee development of integrated omnichannel marketing programs, promotional strategies, and customer engagement initiatives.

Drive excellence in execution while ensuring all activities comply with legal, regulatory, and company requirements.

Launch Optimization & Growth Acceleration

Lead the next phase of commercialization by optimizing launch performance and accelerating brand growth.

Evaluate launch and business performance metrics to identify opportunities to improve adoption, account penetration, patient starts, and market share.

Refine customer segmentation, targeting, and engagement strategies based on marketplace insights and evolving customer needs.

Identify and address barriers to adoption across the patient, provider, and access journey.

Rare Disease Market Development

Drive initiatives that increase disease awareness, accelerate patient identification, and optimize referral pathways.

Partner with patient advocacy organizations, key opinion leaders, and centers of excellence to strengthen the rare disease ecosystem.

Ensure commercial strategies are grounded in a deep understanding of patient, caregiver, and healthcare provider needs.

Champion a patient-centered approach that contributes to improved outcomes and treatment access.

Business & Financial Leadership

Accountable for achievement of revenue, market share, profitability, and operating income objectives.

Lead annual business planning, forecasting, and resource allocation processes.

Monitor commercial performance and adjust strategies to achieve business objectives.

Partner with Finance to manage budgets, investments, and financial performance.

Establish clear performance metrics and accountability measures across the commercial organization.

 Cross-Functional Leadership

Partner closely with Medical Affairs, Market Access Strategy and Market Access, Patient Services, Regulatory, Legal, Compliance, Finance, and other matrix teams to deliver integrated solutions and PnL optimization.

Support development and execution of access and reimbursement strategies that optimize patient access and treatment adoption.

Translate customer insights into recommendations that support lifecycle management and future growth opportunities.

Ensure strong alignment between commercial objectives and broader organizational priorities.

Organizational Leadership & Talent Development

Build and lead a high-performing commercial organization focused on accountability, innovation, collaboration, and patient impact.

Recruit, develop, and retain exceptional commercial talent.

Create development plans and succession pathways for future leaders.

Foster a culture of continuous learning, high engagement, and execution excellence.

Serve as a role model for the organization's values, ethics, and compliance standards.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in a business, scientific, or analytical discipline, such as marketing, pharmacology, biology, engineering or math; MBA or other related graduate degree preferred

15+ years of cross-functional industry experience in commercial life sciences (pharma or biotechnology) or related industry; engaging with key healthcare ecosystem players (e.g., payers, health systems) is required

10+ years of experience in pharmaceutical marketing, product management, or a related industry

Previous account management experience, including developing and implementing account plans for various health ecosystem players (e.g., health system or hospital), is a strong plus

Previous experience building a positive, accountable, highly engaged culture

Ability to work in a complex multi-faceted environment, including the ability to synthesize information from multiple sources to generate insights and identify underlying patterns and themes

Ability to operate with a high degree of autonomy in a dynamic ambiguous environment undergoing transformation

Ability to coordinate a cross-functional team, align them to a common vision and break down boundaries to facilitate high levels of collaboration to bring the best of Otsuka to our customers

Ability to develop strategy in a complex stakeholder environment, including contracting strategy, administration and pull through

Previous experience managing a complex P&L demonstrating strong financial acumen

Sophisticated skills for coaching, training and/or mentoring peers or others as assigned; helping such others to better meet or exceed their goals and achieve their full potential in role

Previous field sales management and/or marketing experience in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or related industry

Previous experience leading broad organizational change initiatives leading to improved performance

Strong understanding of industry legal, regulatory and compliance landscape

Minimum $336,720.80 - Maximum $484,036.15, plus incentive opportunity: The range shown represents a typical pay range or starting pay for individuals who are hired in the role to perform in the United States.
