About the Role:
The Senior Director, Competitive Intelligence will lead Neurocrine's enterprise competitive intelligence capability across our commercial portfolio, clinical pipeline, research programs and external innovation activities. Serves as a strategic advisor to senior and executive leadership, translating complex and rapidly evolving scientific, clinical, regulatory, commercial and competitive information into clear insights that inform corporate strategy, portfolio decisions, business development, R&D strategy and commercial execution.
Builds a forward-looking CI capability that goes beyond traditional monitoring and reporting. Identifies emerging competitive threats and opportunities, develops differentiated perspectives on where markets and therapeutic areas are heading, anticipates competitor actions and helps Neurocrine make better decisions earlier.
Utilizes and champions modern AI tools to transform how Neurocrine collects, analyzes, synthesizes and disseminates competitive intelligence across the entire portfolio. Develops an executive-level competitive thesis and uses AI to interrogate large volumes of scientific, clinical, regulatory, financial and market information to find insights others may miss. _
Your Contributions (include, but are not limited to):
Owns and leads Neurocrine's enterprise competitive intelligence strategy across marketed products, development-stage assets, research programs and emerging areas of strategic interest
Develops deep competitive landscapes across Neurocrine's therapeutic areas, integrating scientific, clinical, regulatory, commercial, market access and financial perspectives
Identifies emerging competitors, mechanisms, technologies and market developments before they become consensus, and assess their potential implications for Neurocrine
Serves as a trusted thought partner to Corporate Strategy, Business Development, R&D, Commercial, Medical Affairs and executive leadership
Translates complex competitive information into clear strategic implications and recommendations, rather than simply reporting developments
Develops competitor and asset-level scenarios, including likely clinical-development strategies, regulatory paths, launch timing, positioning, commercial potential and potential competitor responses
Leads competitive assessments around major catalysts, including clinical readouts, regulatory decisions, medical congresses, product launches, earnings calls and business development transactions
Develops and maintains competitive landscapes, company profiles, pipeline databases, catalyst calendars and other decision-support tools across the portfolio
Partners with Business Development and Corporate Strategy on external innovation, transaction evaluations, market landscapes and strategic opportunity assessments
Partners with R&D teams to understand emerging biology, modalities and development strategies and identify competitive implications early in the research and development lifecycle
Partners with Commercial and Medical teams to understand evolving standards of care, physician behavior, market dynamics and competitor positioning
Designs and leads competitive simulations and war-gaming exercises around important clinical, regulatory and commercial events
Builds an effective system for rapidly communicating material competitive developments to leadership while avoiding information overload
Builds an AI-native competitive intelligence capability across Neurocrine's entire portfolio, using tools to increase the breadth, speed and depth of competitive analysis
Uses large language models and other AI-enabled research and analytical tools to synthesize scientific literature, clinical-trial information, regulatory documents, patents, company disclosures, medical-congress data, market research and other structured and unstructured information
Develops workflows and agents for continuous competitive monitoring, catalyst tracking, landscape development, signal detection and synthesis of large information sets
Uses AI to connect information across therapeutic areas and datasets, identify weak signals and emerging patterns, generate and pressure-test hypotheses, and surface competitive developments that traditional CI approaches may miss
Evaluates and implements new AI tools and data sources that materially improve Neurocrine's competitive intelligence capabilities
Partners with Digital/IT, Legal, Compliance and other stakeholders to ensure appropriate and responsible use of AI and external information
Builds strong relationships across functions and therapeutic areas and create an enterprise network for sharing competitive intelligence
Influences decisions without direct authority and effectively challenge assumptions at senior levels of the organization
Manages external CI vendors and consultants while building sufficient internal capability that Neurocrine retains institutional knowledge and strategic judgment
Recruits, develops and mentors CI talent as the function grows
Establishes standards and best practices for competitive intelligence across the organization
Develops executive-level competitive updates, portfolio reviews, governance materials and Board presentations as needed

Requirements:
BS/BA degree in life sciences, business or related discipline AND 14+ years of relevant pharmaceutical, biotechnology, consulting, investment research, competitive intelligence, strategy or related experience OR
Master's/MBA AND 12+ years of relevant experience OR
PhD/PharmD/MD or other advanced degree AND 10+ years of relevant experience
Significant experience in biopharmaceutical competitive intelligence, corporate strategy, business development, commercial strategy, consulting, investment research or a related strategic function
Deep understanding of drug discovery and development, clinical trials, regulatory pathways and commercialization
Demonstrated ability to understand complex scientific and clinical information and translate it into business and strategic implications
Ability to operate across multiple therapeutic areas, mechanisms and stages of development rather than remaining narrowly specialized in one asset or market
Demonstrated hands-on proficiency with modern generative AI tools and a track record of incorporating AI into day-to-day analytical workflows
Ability to demonstrate how AI can be used to conduct research, synthesize large information sets, automate repetitive workflows and improve the quality and speed of strategic analysis
Strong understanding of the limitations of AI and ability to independently validate sources, identify hallucinations or unsupported conclusions and apply appropriate human judgment
Curiosity and a demonstrated tendency to ask "what does this mean?" and "what happens next?", rather than merely summarizing what has already happened
Ability to synthesize scientific, clinical, regulatory, commercial, market access, financial and competitive information into differentiated strategic insights and recommendations
Demonstrated ability to identify emerging competitive threats, opportunities and weak signals and assess their implications for portfolio and business strategy
Experience developing competitive landscapes, scenarios, strategic assessments and other decision-support analyses for senior and executive leadership
Experience leading teams and managing external partners preferred
Recognized internal thought leader with deep expertise in a discipline and the ability to apply broad business knowledge to complex and novel situations
Demonstrated ability to contribute to long-term strategy, translate strategy into actionable plans, and drive outcomes across functions
Strong strategic judgment and demonstrated ability to develop an independent point of view from incomplete or ambiguous information
Experience supporting senior executives and influencing high-impact portfolio, investment or commercial decisions
Strong quantitative and analytical capabilities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex issues simply and concisely to executive audiences
Strong executive presence, influence and relationship-building skills
Demonstrated ability to influence decisions without direct authority and effectively challenge assumptions at senior levels of the organization

The annual base salary we reasonably expect to pay is $234,600.00-$320,000.00. Individual pay decisions depend on various factors, such as primary work location, complexity and responsibility of role, job duties/requirements, and relevant experience and skills. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus with a target of 35% of the earned base salary and eligibility to participate in our equity based long term incentive program. Benefits offered include a retirement savings plan (with company match), paid vacation, holiday and personal days, paid caregiver/parental and medical leave, and health benefits to include medical, prescription drug, dental and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
