Job Description

The Senior Manager Product Manager will serve as a Digital Product Owner for a defined portfolio of R&D Commercialization technology products and systems and as the Amgen India (AIN) technology lead for R&D Commercialization and PPM.

This role is accountable for translating R&D Commercialization business priorities into product roadmaps, investment priorities, delivery plans, and measurable technology outcomes. The individual will maintain primary relationships with key business stakeholders for their assigned product portfolio and ensure technology investments and team capacity remain aligned to the highest-value business needs.

As the AIN lead for Commercialization, this individual will provide direct people leadership for AIN-based technology staff supporting Commercialization, including talent development, performance management, workforce planning, and building the skills and capabilities required to support an evolving Digital Product Operating Model (DPOM).

The successful candidate will combine product ownership, business relationship management, people leadership, and technology delivery experience. The role will work closely with Digital Product Management leadership, Product Owners, Release Train/Delivery leadership, Business Analysts, Technical Leads, engineering teams, enterprise technology partners, and R&D Commercialization and PPM stakeholders.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Digital Product Ownership & Product Strategy

Serve as Product Owner for a defined portfolio of R&D Commercialization digital products, applications, data solutions, and technology capabilities.

Develop and maintain product roadmaps aligned to R&D Commercialization priorities, business outcomes, enterprise technology strategy, and DPOM principles.

Translate business needs and strategic priorities into clearly defined product capabilities, value drops, features, and prioritized backlogs.

Own ongoing prioritization of demand within the assigned product portfolio, balancing business value, operational needs, technical sustainability, risk, dependencies, and available capacity.

Partner with business stakeholders, Business Analysts, Technical Leads, and delivery teams to define product outcomes, requirements, acceptance criteria, and measures of success.

Ensure product teams understand the business processes, users, outcomes, and value their products enable.

Make day-to-day product prioritization and capacity decisions within established strategic and investment guardrails.

Maintain visibility into product health, roadmap execution, value realization, risks, technical debt, and lifecycle needs.

Business Stakeholder Relationship Management

Serve as a primary technology relationship leader for designated R&D Commercialization business stakeholders and capability areas.

Develop a deep understanding of Commercialization business processes, strategic priorities, operational challenges, and emerging technology, data, and AI opportunities.

Build trusted relationships with business leaders and process owners and act as a strategic technology advisor rather than solely a delivery point of contact.

Facilitate prioritization discussions that balance stakeholder demand with product strategy, technology capacity, enterprise standards, and expected business value.

Partner with stakeholders to develop business cases, investment recommendations, roadmap priorities, and measurable product outcomes.

Communicate product strategy, roadmap progress, delivery status, risks, dependencies, investment needs, and key decisions to business and technology leadership.

Proactively identify opportunities where technology, data, automation, analytics, or AI can improve Commercialization outcomes.

AIN Leadership & People Management

Serve as the AIN technology lead for R&D Commercialization and PPM, providing leadership and coordination across AIN resources supporting the Commercialization and PPM technology portfolio.

Directly manage assigned AIN Information Systems staff, including goal setting, performance management, coaching, career development, engagement, and talent planning.

Recruit, interview, onboard, develop, and retain talent needed to support Commercialization's evolving digital product portfolio.

Establish clear role expectations and ensure staff understand how their contributions connect to product outcomes and broader R&D priorities.

Develop technical, product, business analysis, Agile, data, and AI capabilities within the AIN organization based on current and future portfolio needs.

Coach staff toward greater ownership, independent decision-making, business understanding, and product-oriented ways of working.

Support workforce and capacity planning across Commercialization product teams, including alignment of skills and resources to product demand.

Foster strong collaboration between AIN and US-based staff and create an integrated global team operating model rather than location-based delivery silos.

DPOM & Product Operating Model Leadership

Champion adoption of Amgen's Digital Product Operating Model (DPOM) within the assigned Commercialization product portfolio.

Help ensure delivery toward persistent product teams accountable for business outcomes and product lifecycle management.

Establish clear product ownership, prioritization, decision rights, roadmap management, and stakeholder engagement practices.

Partner with Release Train/Delivery leadership to establish effective execution practices across multiple product teams.

Ensure business priorities and product roadmaps provide the direction for Agile planning and execution.

Promote outcome-oriented product management, including clear measures of value and product performance.

Partner with enterprise DPOM and Agile enablement organizations to align Commercialization ways of working with evolving enterprise standards.

Portfolio, Investment & Governance

Support annual and ongoing technology planning, budgeting, forecasting, and investment management for the assigned product portfolio.

Develop and maintain appropriate business cases and investment recommendations for new capabilities, enhancements, lifecycle needs, and technology modernization.

Partner with Digital Product Management leadership on investment governance and funding processes.

Ensure products navigate applicable architecture, security, data, AI, technology, and investment governance processes and operate in compliance with standards.

Balance investment across new business capabilities, operational sustainability, lifecycle requirements, technical debt, and innovation.

Ensure appropriate product ownership exists across the full lifecycle, from discovery and investment through delivery, operation, enhancement, and retirement.

Product Delivery & Operational Accountability

Partner with Release Train Engineers, Scrum Masters, Technical Leads, Business Analysts, engineers, and other delivery roles to translate roadmaps into executable delivery plans.

Participate actively in PI Planning, roadmap planning, backlog refinement, product reviews, and other key product and Agile ceremonies.

Ensure product backlogs are appropriately prioritized and sufficiently mature to support effective team execution.

Resolve product-level decisions and prioritization conflicts that could impede delivery.

Monitor roadmap execution and adjust priorities based on business needs, capacity, risk, dependencies, and learning.

Ensure appropriate ownership of production health, incidents, lifecycle needs, and operational sustainability for assigned products.

Use operational, delivery, adoption, and value metrics to inform product decisions and continuous improvement.

Technology, Data & AI Leadership

Maintain sufficient understanding of the Commercialization technology landscape to make informed product and investment decisions.

Partner closely with Technical Leads and enterprise architecture teams to ensure product roadmaps account for enterprise technology strategy, architecture standards, security, interoperability, and technical sustainability.

Promote effective data management and FAIR data principles within product roadmaps and solution design.

Identify and evaluate opportunities to apply automation, advanced analytics, AI, and emerging technologies to Commercialization business challenges.

Ensure technology decisions balance near-term business value with long-term scalability, maintainability, and enterprise alignment.

How we calculate "similar"

No black box, no LLM guesswork: a deterministic score built from four normalized attributes. Here's this role's own peer group at different match levels, so you can see the mechanism, not just the result.

Every comparison starts from the same 100-point budget: 25 for working in the same function, 40 for the same therapeutic area, 20 for the same or adjacent seniority, 15 for the same country. A dimension we can't confirm on both sides contributes nothing, never a guess, never a free pass.

Unmatched or unknown dimensions score exactly the same: 0 points, never a partial guess. A role we know almost nothing about beyond its function bottoms out at 25%; it never inflates to 100% just because there's little to compare against. Seniority uses a defined ladder (Associate → Manager → Associate Director → Senior → Principal → Director → Senior Director → Executive/VP) so "Director" and "Senior Director" count as adjacent, but "Director" and "Executive/VP" do not.
