The Opportunity
This position works out of our Plano, TX location in the Neuromodulation division. Our Neuromodulation business includes implantable devices compatible with mobile technology to help people who suffer from chronic pain and movement disorders. These non-opioid therapies allow us to provide interventional pain therapy to patients throughout the pain continuum.
In this individual contributor role, you will drive systems engineering activities for complex active implantable medical device systems, translating clinical, user, and business needs into robust, verifiable solutions. You will maintain a whole-system perspective across implants, leads and electrodes, external accessories, patient and clinician applications, and their interfaces while helping guide development from concept through commercialization.
What You'll Work On
Develop and maintain system architectures, design documentation, and system requirements for implantable neuromodulation systems, external devices, and software applications.
Translate patient, clinician, customer, and business needs into measurable system requirements, design inputs, acceptance criteria, and traceable engineering deliverables.
Define system behaviors, interfaces, workflows, operating modes, and architecture models while identifying gaps, conflicts, and risks across multidisciplinary systems.
Collaborate with electrical, firmware, software, mechanical, clinical, human factors, and business teams to evaluate concepts, resolve design tradeoffs, and support system integration.
Support risk management, verification and validation, system characterization, regulatory documentation, design reviews, and commercialization activities.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related engineering or scientific field.
6+ years of relevant R&D or product development experience, including systems engineering, system design, or requirements development for complex multidisciplinary products.
Demonstrated experience defining or developing system architectures, requirements, subsystem allocations, interfaces, design tradeoffs, and verification approaches.
Working understanding of how hardware, embedded firmware, software, mechanical components, and user interactions integrate to determine overall system behavior, performance, and safety.
Experience working in a regulated development environment and applying risk management, design controls, and relevant industry standards.
Strong analytical, communication, and collaboration skills with the ability to structure ambiguous problems, document technical decisions, and influence cross-functional teams without direct authority.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Class II or Class III medical devices, particularly active implantable devices, neuromodulation, cardiac rhythm management, or other electromechanical therapy systems.
Experience taking one or more multidisciplinary products through the complete development lifecycle, from needs identification and concept development through system integration, verification, validation, and commercialization.
Experience defining system requirements and interfaces for stimulation or sensing, implant-to-external-device communication, battery or charging systems, and patient or clinician software applications.
Understanding of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), SysML, or INCOSE-aligned practices, including experience using system models to support architecture, behavior, interface definition, and requirements analysis.
INCOSE certification (such as CSEP) is a plus.
Experience with requirements-management tools, user-centered design or human factors, and medical device standards such as ISO 13485, ISO 14971, ISO 14708, and IEC 60601, as applicable.

How we calculate "similar"
No black box, no LLM guesswork: a deterministic score built from four normalized attributes. Here's this role's own peer group at different match levels, so you can see the mechanism, not just the result.
Every comparison starts from the same 100-point budget: 25 for working in the same function, 40 for the same therapeutic area, 20 for the same or adjacent seniority, 15 for the same country. A dimension we can't confirm on both sides contributes nothing, never a guess, never a free pass.
0 points, never a partial guess. A role we know almost nothing about beyond its function bottoms out at 25%; it never inflates to 100% just because there's little to compare against. Seniority uses a defined ladder (Associate → Manager → Associate Director → Senior → Principal → Director → Senior Director → Executive/VP) so "Director" and "Senior Director" count as adjacent, but "Director" and "Executive/VP" do not.
