Senior AI Engineer - Agentic Systems & LLMs (Biberach, Germany, Baden-Württemberg)
About this opportunity
The Position
In everything we do and in everything we say, we strive for the best possible ways to help our business serve our patients.
By putting our colleagues in Drug Development Departments for chemical and biological entities (CMC) at the center of our actions, we jointly identify, develop, and implement innovations that enable faster and better decisions across the overall Boehringer Ingelheim pipeline. With the rapid advent of generative AI, LLMs, and agentic technologies, we have the opportunity to accelerate this dramatically and fundamentally change the way we work. Only very few IT roles offer such a direct connection to Boehringer Ingelheim's scientific value chain.
As our Senior Software Engineer for Agentic AI / LLM solutions, you will help shape the transformation of CMC into the era of generative and agentic AI. You will work hands-on with and for our business to develop solutions ranging from simple agents to designing and building complex solutions from scratch, while also driving implementation and upskilling initiatives that accelerate the adoption of these technologies across CMC.
Tasks & responsibilities
In your new role, you will design, develop, deploy, operate, and continuously enhance highly complex and globally distributed GenAI agents, multi-agent systems, workflow automations, and data integrations
You will develop production-ready solutions based on modern software engineering, DevOps, and AI-assisted development practices
Working closely with business stakeholders, you will identify, prioritize, develop, and deliver AI-based use cases that drive measurable business value while adhering to security, privacy, and Responsible AI standards
You will explore and evaluate the latest GenAI, LLM, and agentic technologies, turning innovative ideas into scalable solutions that accelerate business value and enhance future readiness
You will shape the foundation for scalable AI innovation by defining governance frameworks, operating models, and architectural standards that drive the successful development and continuous improvement of GenAI, LLM, and agent-based solutions.
Act as a trusted advisor and AI ambassador, driving adoption through community building, stakeholder engagement, onboarding initiatives, and targeted upskilling programs across our business and IT partners

How we calculate "similar"
No black box, no LLM guesswork: a deterministic score built from four normalized attributes. Here's this role's own peer group at different match levels, so you can see the mechanism, not just the result.
Every comparison starts from the same 100-point budget: 25 for working in the same function, 40 for the same therapeutic area, 20 for the same or adjacent seniority, 15 for the same country. A dimension we can't confirm on both sides contributes nothing, never a guess, never a free pass.
0 points, never a partial guess. A role we know almost nothing about beyond its function bottoms out at 25%; it never inflates to 100% just because there's little to compare against. Seniority uses a defined ladder (Associate → Manager → Associate Director → Senior → Principal → Director → Senior Director → Executive/VP) so "Director" and "Senior Director" count as adjacent, but "Director" and "Executive/VP" do not.
