The Scientist IV, Occupational Safety signs and executes experiments or trials that follow templates established by earlier studies or that use new designs, following a strategy confirmed with their manager. This role interprets results and writes protocols or reports with review by their manager. The incumbent is responsible for both technical and communication roles for assigned function on core teams. This role performs studies for new projects following guidance from the Safety, Drug Metabolism & Pharmacokinetic Team (SDMPK)and/or project team. The primary scope of responsibility is within the immediate function and secondary within a multi-disciplinary project team.

The Scientist IV, Occupational Safety ensures the safety of products in the R&D pipeline and supports globally marketed products. This role utilizes scientific training to compile technical data for use in consumer, target animal, worker, user and environmental safety assessments. The incumbent will establish and review occupational exposure limits and permissible daily exposure limits for BIAH products.

The Scientist IV, Occupational Safety will act as a technical specialist for occupational safety related to BIAH products and participate in corporate committees and task forces related to these areas of expertise.

Duties & Responsibilities

Initiates, designs, interprets accurately, troubleshoots and completes routine assessments independently and efficiently; initiates, designs, interprets accurately, troubleshoots and completes non-routine and difficult assessments generally without supervision.

Initiates and executes exploratory experiments.

Prepares Occupational Exposure and Permissible Daily Exposure Limits. Investigates, researches, and compiles risk assessments that are necessary and required to meet health hazard evaluation compliance commitments.

Proposes, gains support for and implements ideas from individual’s knowledge of science and technology and understanding of drug safety.

Compiles, evaluates, reviews and summarizes technical data.

Prepares and reviews reports, memos, SOPs and regulatory documents.

Applies scientific principles to synthesize information from scientific and regulatory literature to identify data gaps and propose weight of evidence approaches.

Independently applies basic scientific principles, performs literature searches, attends scientific

meetings, and keeps abreast of literature in own field.

Develops study protocols to address data gaps; collaborates with CROs and team members to execute studies and report results.

Effectively communicates and defends own work, orally and in writing, in the context of the company and team goals at meetings.

Provides quality control review of departmental technical deliverables, including protocols, reports and documents for regulatory submission.

Demonstrates a contemporary level of technical proficiency in field, including training team members on occupational safety concepts.

Manages and organizes technical information in internal databases.

Reports and treats data with a high level of integrity and ethics.

Complies with applicable regulations and follows SOPs and policies.

Participate in cross departmental project teams when assigned.

Requirements

PhD in occupational health, toxicology, biology, or a related field with two (2) years’ experience required.

OR

Masters with a minimum of six (6) years applicable industry experience (preference for CRO, pharmaceutical or AgChem) required.

Knowledge of toxicology, including understanding at least the fundamental concepts of human health risk assessments, industrial hygiene and occupational toxicology.

Eager to learn and follow regulatory guidance applicable to hazard, exposure and risk assessments

Accomplished at scientific technical writing. Excellent English verbal, written and presentation skills; Advanced skills in Excel, Word, PowerPoint; familiarity with databases.

Highly organized, with superior attention to detail

Experience in protocol development and study design, data management and processing, analysis and collation. Familiarity with Good Laboratory Practices.

Ability to work under pressure with multiple competing priorities.

Embrace and implement corporate values.

Excellent English verbal, written and presentation skills; Advanced skills in Excel, Word, PowerPoint; familiarity with databases.

Proficiency in German considered a plus.

Advanced training in the area of technical expertise

Prepare technical reports, publications and oral presentations

Act as a leader in absence of supervisor

Ability to travel up to 10% (overnight may be included)

Eligibility Requirements :

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.

Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).

Must be 18 years of age or older.
