About the role:

As a Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) Specialist at BioNTech’s Gaithersburg facility, you will play a pivotal role in implementing and continuously improving SHE programs that ensure safe and sustainable operations. Working closely with site leadership, the US SHE team, and the Global SHE organization, your contributions will directly support BioNTech’s mission to advance medicine responsibly and effectively. You’ll be part of a dynamic environment where collaboration drives innovation in safety and health practices.

In this hands-on role, you’ll lead initiatives such as workplace inspections, risk assessments, training programs, and emergency preparedness activities. Your work will not only impact day-to-day operations but also contribute to U.S.-wide SHE programs and compliance efforts aligned with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards. Your contribution:

Execute and enhance SHE programs focusing on occupational safety, chemical management, environmental compliance, and ergonomics

Conduct workplace inspections, audits, risk assessments; ensure timely corrective actions

Lead incident investigations including root cause analysis and tracking corrective measures

Coordinate SHE training sessions while fostering employee engagement in safety initiatives

Support emergency preparedness activities such as drills and response team functions

Maintain compliance records including permits, documentation, performance metrics

Collaborate on U.S.-wide SHE initiatives including contractor safety and management system audits

A good match:

Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety or related scientific disciplines like Environmental Science or Industrial Hygiene

Relevant experience (3–6 years) in regulated environments such as pharmaceutical or biotechnology industries

Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations alongside environmental compliance expertise

Skilled in conducting audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications; familiarity with SHE management systems is a plus

Effective communicator with strong organizational skills for handling dynamic priorities

Preferred qualifications include experience with ISO 14001/ISO 45001 standards or certifications like ASP or CHMM. If you thrive in cross-functional teams and are passionate about fostering safer workplaces while driving impactful change across BioNTech facilities, this role is for you.

Your benefits and remuneration:

Expected Pay Range: $85,700year to $137,100/year + benefits, annual bonus & equity (bonus and equity is variable and dependent on company and individual performance). Compensation for the role will depend on several factors, including responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities .
