The Translational Safety Pharmacology department provides rigorous in vitro and in vivo safety assessments and fit-for-purpose assay development to enable informed discovery and development decisions. Cardiovascular safety pharmacology is central to advancing safe, high-quality medicines.
The Principal Research Scientist will serve as the in vivo cardiovascular safety pharmacology subject-matter leader, providing scientific and strategic leadership across rodent, canine, and nonhuman-primate models. This role leads the design, execution, interpretation, and reporting of cardiovascular safety studies; advances GLP and regulatory readiness; and partners across a matrixed organization to deliver reproducible, decision-ready data.
Responsibilities:
Lead the design, execution, quality, interpretation, and reporting of in vivo cardiovascular safety pharmacology studies across rodent, canine, and nonhuman-primate models.
Provide scientific leadership for cardiovascular assessments, including hemodynamics, ECG and electrophysiology, pressure-volume loops, echocardiography, vascular reactivity, thrombosis, and relevant disease models.
Develop, optimize, validate, and implement fit-for-purpose cardiovascular assays and models; author and implement SOPs that support quality, consistency, and regulatory readiness.
Champion data quality, reproducibility, and scientifically sound interpretation; mentor scientists; communicate study strategy, results, and risk assessments to senior leadership, cross-functional stakeholders, and regulatory-facing teams; and advance cardiovascular safety pharmacology capabilities, workflows, and technologies.
Manage (directly and indirectly) team members in a matrixed environment to help plan, coordinate, and prioritize studies.
Qualifications
PhD in physiology, pharmacology, toxicology, or a related field, with 10+ years of relevant experience in cardiovascular biology, safety pharmacology, or a closely related discipline.
Demonstrated cardiovascular biology and safety pharmacology expertise, including the ability to design, execute, interpret, and report in vivo cardiovascular studies.
Experience with rodent and large-animal studies, including canine and nonhuman-primate models.
Experience authoring and implementing SOPs, with working knowledge of GLP, quality systems, and regulatory-ready documentation.
Strong written and verbal scientific communication skills; demonstrated ability to lead in a matrixed environment, apply critical thinking, troubleshoot complex study issues, and manage multiple priorities effectively.
At least one year of previous people management experience

How we calculate "similar"
No black box, no LLM guesswork: a deterministic score built from four normalized attributes. Here's this role's own peer group at different match levels, so you can see the mechanism, not just the result.
Every comparison starts from the same 100-point budget: 25 for working in the same function, 40 for the same therapeutic area, 20 for the same or adjacent seniority, 15 for the same country. A dimension we can't confirm on both sides contributes nothing, never a guess, never a free pass.
0 points, never a partial guess. A role we know almost nothing about beyond its function bottoms out at 25%; it never inflates to 100% just because there's little to compare against. Seniority uses a defined ladder (Associate → Manager → Associate Director → Senior → Principal → Director → Senior Director → Executive/VP) so "Director" and "Senior Director" count as adjacent, but "Director" and "Executive/VP" do not.
