Position summary

The National Account Manager, Market Access Employer Engagement, is a strategic, external-facing member of US Market Access. Reporting to the Director, Employer Engagement - Obesity, this role leads engagement with a defined portfolio of jumbo employers and the organizations that shape their health-benefit decisions, including employer benefit consultants, coalitions, TPAs, PBMs, carriers, point-solution partners and, where relevant, IDNs. The Account Manager helps customers navigate evidence-based approaches to obesity and other Amgen therapeutic areas as assigned, with the goal of enabling appropriate patient access, sustainable benefit design and improved population-health outcomes.

This role combines consultative account leadership with deep market access expertise. The Account Manager develops account strategies, uncovers customer needs and market barriers, coordinates compliant Amgen resources, and translates field insight into enterprise strategy, evidence generation, tools and launch readiness. Success is measured by the quality and strategic depth of customer engagement, access progress within priority accounts, actionable insight and cross-functional impact - not by traditional sales call activity alone.

Key responsibilities

Own a strategic regional portfolio of priority jumbo employers and employer ecosystem accounts; create and execute account plans that define customer objectives, stakeholder maps, access barriers, value exchange, actions, measures and escalation needs.

Build trusted, senior-level relationships with employer benefits, total rewards, pharmacy, medical, finance and procurement leaders, as well as EBCs, consultants, coalition leaders, TPAs, PBMs, carriers and appropriate point-solution partners.

Lead consultative discussions on obesity benefit design, access and affordability, utilization-management approaches, patient journey and population-health outcomes, within approved Amgen strategy and compliant engagement models.

Identify and advance appropriate access opportunities through the employer decision ecosystem; coordinate with internal market access strategy, contracting, brand, medical, HEOR/RWE, value communications, patient support and field teams.

Translate Amgen clinical, economic and real-world evidence into customer-relevant value discussions; identify evidence gaps and bring actionable needs to HEOR/RWE and strategy partners.

Develop scalable employer-facing capabilities, including account tools, meeting-in-a-box content, market insights and solution concepts that support launch readiness and sustained engagement.

Monitor and communicate employer benefit, PBM, vendor, policy and competitive trends. Deliver concise, decision-ready insights that inform segmentation, account prioritization, contracting, evidence generation and brand strategy.

Represent Amgen at employer, consultant and coalition meetings and selected industry forums; expand the organization’s external presence and credibility in the employer market.

Maintain rigorous account documentation, CRM hygiene, performance tracking and compliance with all legal, regulatory, privacy and company requirements.

Conduct field sales support as necessary to drive pull through of coverage opportunities and resolve billing and coding issues related to Amgen products

Basic qualifications

· Doctorate degree and 2 years of sales, marketing, market access, employer benefits or payer experience; OR Master’s degree and 4 years; OR Bachelor’s degree and 6 years; OR Associate’s degree and 10 years; OR High school diploma or GED and 12 years of relevant experience.

· Three or more years of customer-facing strategic account management, market access, payer, employer-benefits, consulting, PBM, health-plan, coalition or relevant healthcare experience.

· Ability to travel domestically up to 60 percent of the time, including overnight travel, as business needs require.

Preferred qualifications

· Direct experience with self-insured jumbo employers, employer benefit consultants, employer coalitions, TPAs, PBMs, carriers or health-benefit point solutions.

·Demonstrated ability to influence access, coverage, benefit design, affordability or population-health decisions in a complex healthcare ecosystem.

· Strong knowledge of employer-sponsored benefits, pharmacy and medical benefit management, utilization management, managed care and contracting concepts.

·Experience in obesity, cardiometabolic disease, chronic-condition management, population health, value-based care or another complex therapeutic area.

· Ability to interpret and communicate clinical, HEOR/RWE, claims or utilization data in an executive-level, customer-relevant manner.

·Proven cross-functional leadership without direct authority, strong executive presentation skills and disciplined account-planning execution.

·MBA, PharmD, MPH or other advanced degree preferred.

Critical success profile

The ideal candidate is commercially rigorous and customer-centered: able to hold an informed conversation about affordability without reducing the relationship to price, elevate evidence without becoming academic, and coordinate the right Amgen resources without overpromising. They create value before a coverage decision, use insight to shape the enterprise, and bring disciplined follow-through to a complex, long-cycle employer market.

How we calculate "similar"

No black box, no LLM guesswork: a deterministic score built from four normalized attributes. Here's this role's own peer group at different match levels, so you can see the mechanism, not just the result.

Every comparison starts from the same 100-point budget: 25 for working in the same function, 40 for the same therapeutic area, 20 for the same or adjacent seniority, 15 for the same country. A dimension we can't confirm on both sides contributes nothing, never a guess, never a free pass.

Unmatched or unknown dimensions score exactly the same: 0 points, never a partial guess. A role we know almost nothing about beyond its function bottoms out at 25%; it never inflates to 100% just because there's little to compare against. Seniority uses a defined ladder (Associate → Manager → Associate Director → Senior → Principal → Director → Senior Director → Executive/VP) so "Director" and "Senior Director" count as adjacent, but "Director" and "Executive/VP" do not.
