What you will do

The Rare Disease Key Account Management team’s overall goal is to reduce time to diagnosis, increase appropriate patient identification and improve speed to treatment by partnering with key stakeholders in targeted accounts through focus in the therapeutic areas that Amgen's Rare Disease products are indicated. The Rare Disease Key Account Director (KAD) leads a team of Key Account Managers (KAMs) responsible for unlocking operational and access challenges related to appropriate therapies across health systems, specialty clinics, infusion centers, and sites of care to grow the overall rare disease business in the assigned accounts and market. The KAD sets direction and builds team capability to identify account-level barriers and execute targeted strategies that help enable appropriate access to therapy, strengthen clinic readiness, optimize buy-and-bill operations, and support a reliable patient experience across the rare disease treatment journey.

Responsibilities:

People Leadership & Team Capability

Lead, coach, and develop a team of KAMs, establishing clear priorities, performance standards and expectations, and accountability for business outcomes and compliant execution.

Build KAM capability in strategic account planning, stakeholder engagement, contracting, access, site enablement, and use of account data and insights.

Attract, select, develop, and retain KAM talent; provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and development opportunities that strengthen individual performance and prepare team members for future career opportunities at Amgen.

Lead regular team business and account strategy reviews to set priorities, allocate resources, share best practices, monitor performance, and ensure completion of required training and compliant execution.

Account Strategy & Enterprise Value

Translate national and portfolio strategy into geography and account-specific priorities and execution plans that connect portfolio objectives to customer priorities, including clinic growth, patient access, site-of-care efficiency, and treatment continuity.

Ensure the team assesses the business environment across assigned accounts to identify access, operational, economic, and care-delivery barriers that affect appropriate rare disease patient access and care delivery.

Lead account strategy and business reviews that translate data and field insights into clear opportunity hypotheses, action plans, performance measures, and timely adjustments to execution.

Support KAMs in building stakeholder maps and engaging priority clinical, administrative, and operational stakeholders.

Access, Contracting & Site Enablement

Provide leadership and oversight for account contracting opportunities, coordinating internal approvals and supporting compliant negotiation and execution.

Partner with KAMs and internal colleagues to identify and address barriers related to contracting, customer membership, ordering, distribution channel, formulary or pathway decisions, and product availability.

Guide team efforts to improve reimbursement readiness, inventory practices, ordering processes, patient financial navigation, and other buy-and-bill workflows.

Ensure the team enables sites of care through education, workflow support, and coordinated resources that strengthen operational readiness to support patient care.

Cross-Functional Leadership & Performance

Lead coordinated field execution with sales, medical, patient services, market access, pricing, trade, analytics, brand, and legal/compliance partners.

Represent the account perspective and voice of the customer in cross-functional planning, balancing customer needs with Amgen business goals.

Monitor team and account performance, remove barriers to execution, and adapt priorities to deliver against agreed objectives in a compliant manner.

Provide timely, actionable feedback to internal partners on customer needs, field execution, program effectiveness, competitive dynamics, reimbursement trends, operational barriers, and opportunities to strengthen rare disease patient access.

How we calculate "similar"

No black box, no LLM guesswork: a deterministic score built from four normalized attributes. Here's this role's own peer group at different match levels, so you can see the mechanism, not just the result.

Every comparison starts from the same 100-point budget: 25 for working in the same function, 40 for the same therapeutic area, 20 for the same or adjacent seniority, 15 for the same country. A dimension we can't confirm on both sides contributes nothing, never a guess, never a free pass.

Unmatched or unknown dimensions score exactly the same: 0 points, never a partial guess. A role we know almost nothing about beyond its function bottoms out at 25%; it never inflates to 100% just because there's little to compare against. Seniority uses a defined ladder (Associate → Manager → Associate Director → Senior → Principal → Director → Senior Director → Executive/VP) so "Director" and "Senior Director" count as adjacent, but "Director" and "Executive/VP" do not.
