The Position
As a Custom Software Developer within Roche’s RDT Engineering Excellence & Experience organization, you will play a core role in engineering, scaling, and maintaining robust digital solutions that empower global healthcare innovation.
Operating at the Project level within cross-functional agile squads, you will combine hands-on full-stack development with strong engineering discipline. You will contribute across the entire software delivery lifecycle, from initial technical analysis and feature conception to automated deployment and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Full-Stack Application Development: Design, build, and maintain resilient microservices and responsive web applications using Java and modern web frameworks (Angular, TypeScript, JavaScript, CSS).
Software Quality & Testing: Apply Test-Driven Development (TDD) principles alongside manual and automated testing practices to ensure code reliability, security, and enterprise standards.
Database & Integration Engineering: Design and optimize database schemas and queries across relational systems (PostgreSQL) and manage data handling via template frameworks.
CI/CD & Operational Excellence: Execute end-to-end delivery using continuous integration and deployment pipelines (GitHub), Linux shell scripting, and modern DevOps tooling.
Domain & Business Analysis: Support technical feasibility studies, refine requirements, and assist with procedures aligned with Computerized System Validation (CSV) guidelines.
Collaboration & AI Integration: Leverage AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude) to accelerate delivery, engage in peer code reviews, and drive continuous improvement within internal Communities of Practice (CoPs).
Candidate Qualifications & Technical Profile
Primary / Essential Requirements (Must-Have)
Backend Mastery: Proven hands-on development experience in Java and python.
Frontend Core: solid experience with Angular, TypeScript, JavaScript (JS), HTML5, and CSS.
Database & APIs: Strong SQL scripting skills and relational database experience (PostgreSQL); proven experience with RESTful microservices architecture.
Quality & Testing: Practical experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD), automated unit/integration testing, and clean code principles.
Version Control & Automation: Proficiency with Git workflows and Linux/Bash command-line automation.
Desirable / Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Have)
Complementary Languages & Frameworks: Exposure to Kotlin, Groovy, or Python for specialized development, utility scripting, or automation.
Servers & Templating: Familiarity with Apache Tomcat application server configuration and Apache Velocity template rendering.
CI/CD & DevOps Automation: Direct experience setting up and managing CI/CD deployments using GitHub Actions or GitLab CI/CD.
AI-Assisted Development: Proficiency in utilizing modern AI Developer Tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude, or equivalent AI coding assistants) to increase quality and productivity.
Enterprise Tooling: Hands-on experience with Codebeamer Configuration (customizing fields, workflows, and state transitions).
Domain & Compliance Knowledge: Basic business analysis exposure, specifically around Computerized System Validation (CSV) procedures and regulatory compliance in healthcare/pharma.
Testing Versatility: Experience combining automated test suites with structured Manual Testing methodologies for edge-case validation.
Key Competencies
Problem-Solving & Adaptability: Ability to analyze complex business logic, evaluate technical feasibility, and propose well-structured solutions independently.
Agile Collaboration: Comfortable working in cross-functional squad settings, giving and receiving constructive code feedback, and maintaining clear technical documentation.

How we calculate "similar"
No black box, no LLM guesswork: a deterministic score built from four normalized attributes. Here's this role's own peer group at different match levels, so you can see the mechanism, not just the result.
Every comparison starts from the same 100-point budget: 25 for working in the same function, 40 for the same therapeutic area, 20 for the same or adjacent seniority, 15 for the same country. A dimension we can't confirm on both sides contributes nothing, never a guess, never a free pass.
0 points, never a partial guess. A role we know almost nothing about beyond its function bottoms out at 25%; it never inflates to 100% just because there's little to compare against. Seniority uses a defined ladder (Associate → Manager → Associate Director → Senior → Principal → Director → Senior Director → Executive/VP) so "Director" and "Senior Director" count as adjacent, but "Director" and "Executive/VP" do not.
