About this opportunity

At Bristol Myers Squibb, our employees often ask, “Who are you working for?”, a question that fuels collaboration, accountability, and urgency in our work. Our purpose-driven culture inspires us to discover, develop, and deliver innovative medicines to prevail over serious diseases. We offer uniquely interesting and meaningful work, opportunities for growth, and a supportive environment that values inclusion, wellbeing, flexibility, and comprehensive benefits. This is work that transforms the lives of patients, and the careers of those who do it.

Are you the kind of person who makes complex things work smoothly?

The person who walks into a room of competing priorities and finds the path forward?

Who builds trust across teams, champions safety without being asked and leaves every environment a little more capable than they found it?

If that sounds like you, keep reading.

What you'll actually be doing and why it matters

At Bristol Myers Squibb, the medicines we make change lives. And behind every batch, every stability study, every regulatory submission, there's a GMP laboratory environment that has to be safe, ready, and performing at its best - every single day.

That's where you come in.

As our GMP Laboratory Operations Lead for Building 6, will sit at the heart of our Moreton site's Analytical Science and Operations team - connecting three distinct laboratory organisations (Analytical Leadership & Testing, Long Term Stability, and Marketed Life Stability) into a cohesive, high-performing whole.

You'll be the person who makes sure the right conversations happen at the right time, that resources are aligned before they become a problem, that safety is embedded in the culture - not just the paperwork - and that when an auditor walks through our doors, we're more than ready to welcome them.

This is a role where your impact is visible, broad, and lasting.

Here's what a typical week might look like

You're facilitating the Building 6 Laboratory Leadership Team - bringing ALT, LTS and MLS together to align on priorities, navigate competing demands, and make joined-up decisions that keep the labs moving forward

You're working alongside GMP Laboratory Systems to make sure equipment qualification, calibration and maintenance activities are planned around operational needs - not in spite of them

You're delivering hands-on training on a new analytical technique to a scientist who's just picked it up, making sure it sticks rather than being a one-off demo

You're coaching an early-career scientist who's just taken on their first safety rep role, helping them find their voice and build their confidence

You're leading a cross-functional discussion on lessons learned from a recent near-miss - turning it into a genuine improvement, not just a tick-box exercise

You're preparing your teams for an upcoming regulatory inspection - not in a scramble, but calmly, because you've built a culture of readiness

No two days are the same. And that's exactly the point.

What you'll gain from this role

Real influence, without needing a title to back it up. This role is built around matrix leadership - which means you'll develop and demonstrate one of the most valued skills in modern organisations: the ability to bring people with you through trust, clarity and collaboration rather than hierarchy.

Breadth that builds your career. You'll work across laboratory operations, EHS, quality, capability development, infrastructure and strategic planning. That kind of cross-functional exposure is rare and it positions you brilliantly for senior leadership roles in science, operations or quality.

A community, not just a job. You'll be the cultural anchor for the Building 6 laboratory community. You'll mentor apprentices and graduates, champion emerging scientists and leaders and actively shape the kind of environment people want to come to work in. That legacy matters - to them, and to you.

A seat at the table where it counts. When the site faces its biggest operational challenges - resource pressure, regulatory scrutiny, infrastructure change - you'll be in the room. You won't be waiting to hear what was decided; you'll be part of making the decision.

Visible impact on patient outcomes. Everything you do - keeping labs audit-ready, driving continuous improvement, building safety culture - directly enables the science that gets medicines to patients. That connection is real and it's something you'll feel every day.

What you'll bring

You don't need to have done this exact role before but you do need to bring:

Solid GMP laboratory experience - you understand the regulated environment deeply and you've operated within it successfully

A track record of working across complex, matrixed organisations - you know how to navigate ambiguity and align stakeholders without it becoming exhausting for everyone involved

A genuine passion for safety - not as a compliance obligation but as something you personally believe in and actively promote

The ability to influence without authority - people follow your lead because you earn it, not because an org chart says so

Experience driving change and improvement - you've seen what good looks like and you know how to take others on the journey with you

A scientific degree or equivalent hands-on experience - the credibility to be taken seriously in a highly technical environment

The bigger picture

BMS is on a mission to transform patients' lives through science. Our Moreton site is a critical part of that mission and Building 6 is at the heart of how we maintain the quality and safety standards that make it possible.

This role isn't just about keeping the lights on. It's about building something - a laboratory community that's safer, more capable, more connected, and more ready for the future than it was before you arrived.

If you're ready to lead with influence, develop with purpose, and make a tangible difference to the people around you and the patients we ultimately serve - we'd love to hear from you.

How we calculate "similar"

No black box, no LLM guesswork: a deterministic score built from four normalized attributes. Here's this role's own peer group at different match levels, so you can see the mechanism, not just the result.

Every comparison starts from the same 100-point budget: 25 for working in the same function, 40 for the same therapeutic area, 20 for the same or adjacent seniority, 15 for the same country. A dimension we can't confirm on both sides contributes nothing, never a guess, never a free pass.

Unmatched or unknown dimensions score exactly the same: 0 points, never a partial guess. A role we know almost nothing about beyond its function bottoms out at 25%; it never inflates to 100% just because there's little to compare against. Seniority uses a defined ladder (Associate → Manager → Associate Director → Senior → Principal → Director → Senior Director → Executive/VP) so "Director" and "Senior Director" count as adjacent, but "Director" and "Executive/VP" do not.
