About this opportunity

Description

Boehringer Ingelheim is currently seeking a talented and innovative Intern to join the Material and Analytical Sciences department located at our Ridgefield, CT facility. As an Intern, you will develop an in silico predictive modeling framework to assess the effects of formulation composition and conditions on biomolecular solution viscosity. The objective of this work is to accelerate the speed-to-clinic of new therapeutic candidates by enabling early identification and mitigation of viscosity-related risks, thereby supporting the development of optimized formulations with improved manufacturability, stability, and patient usability.

As an employee of Boehringer Ingelheim, you will actively contribute to the discovery, development and delivery of our products to our patients and customers. Our global presence provides opportunity for all employees to collaborate internationally, offering visibility and opportunity to directly contribute to the companies' success. We realize that our strength and competitive advantage lie with our people. We support our employees in a number of ways to foster a healthy working environment, meaningful work, mobility, networking and work-life balance. Our competitive compensation and benefit programs reflect Boehringer Ingelheim's high regard for our employees.

Duties & Responsibilities

•    Implement state-of-the-art molecular modeling, molecular dynamics simulation methods and machine learning based approaches with principles from statistical mechanics, biophysics and soft matter to develop an in-silico viscosity prediction platform

•    Leverage insights from the scientific literature and experimental datasets to develop a transferable and scalable in silico viscosity prediction platform that can be applied across a broad range of biomolecular modalities including peptides and other biologics

•    Evaluate and benchmark multiple computational viscosity prediction strategies to identify robust and scalable methodologies for formulation development.

•    Engage with industry stakeholders, present progress and final results in internal meetings, contribute to internal report documentation or publication as appropriate

Requirements

•    Must be a current undergraduate, graduate or advanced degree student in good academic standing pursuing a degree in (computational) biophysics/ (computational) chemistry/ soft matter physics/ chemical engineering or a related discipline

•    Student must be enrolled at an accredited college or university for the duration of the internship

•    Overall cumulative minimum GPA from last completed quarter/semester 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) preferred

•    Major or minor in chemistry, biophysics, soft matter physics or related disciplines

•    Undergraduate students must have completed at least 12 credit hours at current college or university

•    Graduate and advanced degree students must have completed at least 9 credit hours at current college or university

Desired Experience, Skills and Abilities

•    Strong background and proven experience of using molecular modeling and modern simulation tools (eg., Gromacs, LAMMPS, OpenMM, Maestro/Schrodinger Suite) for simulation of soft matter and biomolecules (eg., polymer, hydrogels, co-solutes, lipid molecules, peptides and proteins etc).

•    Experience with force-field parameterization, along with knowledge of and practical experience with enhanced-sampling and free-energy calculation methods.

•    Strong programming skills in Python or other scientific computing languages, with experience using trajectory-analysis tools such as MDTraj, MDAnalysis, or related packages.

•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to work independently and collaborate across analytical, computational and IT functions

Eligibility Requirements

· Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.

· Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required)

· Must be 18 years of age or older

Compensation Data

This position offers an hourly rate of  $24 to $33 commensurate with the level of degree program in which an applicant is actively enrolled. How we calculate "similar"

No black box, no LLM guesswork: a deterministic score built from four normalized attributes. Here's this role's own peer group at different match levels, so you can see the mechanism, not just the result.

Every comparison starts from the same 100-point budget: 25 for working in the same function, 40 for the same therapeutic area, 20 for the same or adjacent seniority, 15 for the same country. A dimension we can't confirm on both sides contributes nothing, never a guess, never a free pass.

Unmatched or unknown dimensions score exactly the same: 0 points, never a partial guess. A role we know almost nothing about beyond its function bottoms out at 25%; it never inflates to 100% just because there's little to compare against. Seniority uses a defined ladder (Associate → Manager → Associate Director → Senior → Principal → Director → Senior Director → Executive/VP) so "Director" and "Senior Director" count as adjacent, but "Director" and "Executive/VP" do not.
