Role Description:

The Specialist UX Designer balances user goals, business requirements, and technical feasibility to deliver simple and elegant designs as part of a product team. This role will be the experience design lead for digital products within Amgen’s Operations Team. The designer will lead the design process from concept through execution, working closely with cross-functional teams to create intuitive, user-friendly interfaces. They will mentor and guide designers to continue to build our UX team. They will utilize user research, data analysis, and feedback to iterate and improve designs continuously. They will collaborate with stakeholders and product teams to ensure the designs are feasible, considering best practices, usability, and accessibility standards. Clear communication, comfort in ambiguity, and agility in adapting to business needs are crucial attributes for success in this role.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Lead design discussions with product managers and business leads to define user requirements and design goals.

Provide design leadership, guidance, and mentorship to designers. Clearly communicate business requirements and user needs to designers and collaborate in iterating towards design solutions.

Collaborate with developers to create and implement design solutions that are technically feasible while ensuring an optimal user experience.

Involvement in UX strategy and understanding of long-term roadmap for tools and platforms.

Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and analysts to design UX flows for data products, dashboard interfaces, and operational tools built on React, Angular, Tableau, and GenAI platforms

Create annotated prototypes and/or wireframes of user interface designs that visually and textually communicate the intended behavior of a software application.

Lead and influence business-wide discussions relative to current user experience projects and the future direction of design and user experience.

Design conversational experiences and UI workflows integrated with natural language and LLM-driven analytics assistant

Utilize Figma for creating wireframes, prototypes, and visual designs.

Ability to use JIRA for tracking design tasks, updating status, and handling workflows.

Proactive problem solving and engagement to meet timelines and objectives

Maintain a user-centered design approach and ensure all designs are simple, elegant, intuitive and follow best practices and accessibility guidelines.

Communicate design ideas and prototypes clearly to key customers and team members.

Stay updated with the latest design trends, techniques, and AI developments to ensure the best user experience.

Engage in design critiques by sharing designs and giving feedback to teammates.

Adapt to a fast-paced environment and learn new tools and methods quickly.

Basic Qualifications and Experience:

Doctorate Degree OR

Master’s degree with 8 - 13 years of experience in Computer Science, Business, Engineering, IT or Supply Chain   OR

Bachelor’s degree with 8 - 13 years of experience in Computer Science, Business, Engineering, IT or Supply Chain OR

Diploma with 8 - 13 years of experience in Computer Science, Business, Engineering, IT or Supply Chain

Functional Skills

Must-Have Skills:

Proficient in using standard design & wireframing tools (Figma) hand drawing, whiteboarding, and visual communication, time-based and interactive prototyping tools (Figma Prototyping, Miro).

Experience in building responsive desktop, web and mobile applications.

Deep knowledge of UI/UX best practices, accessibility standards, and design patterns.

Ability to lead design workshops with product team and clearly articulate design decisions. Ability to update designs based on feedback from workshops with stakeholders.

Ability to lead and mentor designers, team-build, and connect with designers across teams.

Experience with Figma design systems and how to use components within Figma.

Good-to-Have Skills:

Experience designing for supply chain, manufacturing, or operational analytics applications

Experience with HMTL, CSS, Javascript to determine feasibility of designs

Experience with SAFe Agile processes

Familiarity with React and AngularJS design constraints, responsive UI principles, and collaboration with frontend teams

Passionate about team building

Passionate about learning new technologies, new methods, and new skills. Have a good understanding of Agile teams, practices, and principles.

Deep understanding of data visualization and visual communication.

Knowledge in creating and updating design components in Figma

Ability to see the bigger picture, planning for both immediate and incremental releases within a 2-week sprint cadence.

Any user experiences design certification (optional)

Agile related certification (optional)

Strong presentation and public speaking skills
