About this opportunity

Are you passionate about laboratory automation, digitalisation, and developing innovative solutions that accelerate scientific discovery? Do you thrive at the intersection of science, technology, and regulated laboratory environments? If so, this is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in transforming bioanalytical workflows and shaping the future of automation within one of the world's leading healthcare companies.

Your new role

As Principal Scientist for Automation of Bioanalytical Assays, you will join a highly skilled scientific environment where automation, quality, and continuous improvement are at the core of how we work. You will work across Non-clinical and Clinical Assay Sciences (NCAS), collaborating with scientists, technicians, and automation specialists to drive the implementation of automated laboratory and software solutions , as well as ensuring operational excellence in a regulated environment.

Key responsibilities include:

Driving the implementation, qualification, and validation of laboratory automation equipment and supporting IT systems.

Developing and optimising automated workflows for bioanalytical, biomarker, and immunogenicity assays.

Providing first-line technical support and troubleshooting for automated laboratory equipment and associated software solutions.

Improving data flows, system integrations, and digital laboratory processes across departments.

Collaborating closely with end users to identify opportunities for automation and ensure solutions meet operational, regulatory and scientific needs.

In this role, you will contribute to the ongoing digital transformation of our laboratories while helping to maintain compliance with GLP/GCP requirements. You will have a unique opportunity to influence how automation is deployed across NCAS and support the development of innovative solutions that enable high-quality bioanalysis.

Your new department

You will become part of the LCMS department within Non-clinical and Clinical Assay Sciences (NCAS), an area responsible for pre-clinical and clinical bioanalysis of new pharmaceutical compounds, including biomarker and immunogenicity testing.

NCAS consists of eight departments with a strong culture of collaboration and scientific excellence. Our laboratories utilise advanced technologies including ligand-binding assays, ELISA, LOCI, Gyros, radioimmunoassays, cell-based assays, and LCMS platforms. As a GLP/GCP regulated organisation, we continuously invest in digitalisation and automation to strengthen quality, efficiency, and innovation.

The position offers broad exposure across NCAS, allowing you to collaborate with colleagues from different scientific disciplines while contributing to an exciting transformation journey focused on laboratory automation and digital enablement.

Your skills and qualifications

To succeed in this position, we are looking for someone who combines scientific expertise with a strong passion for automation and technology.

We imagine that you have:

A scientific degree with experience working in laboratory environments, preferably within pharmaceutical, biotech, or regulated settings.

Hands-on experience with laboratory automation platforms, ideally including Tecan Fluent liquid handling systems.

Basic programming skills in an object-oriented language such as VB.NET, C#, Python, or similar technologies.

Experience supporting system qualification, equipment validation, or computerised system validation, which would be considered an advantage.

Excellent collaboration and communication skills combined with a proactive and service-oriented mindset.

Beyond your technical expertise, you are motivated by solving complex challenges, engaging with stakeholders, and finding practical solutions that create value for end users. You enjoy working across disciplines and naturally build strong relationships with colleagues while maintaining a strong focus on quality and compliance.

How we calculate "similar"

No black box, no LLM guesswork: a deterministic score built from four normalized attributes. Here's this role's own peer group at different match levels, so you can see the mechanism, not just the result.

Every comparison starts from the same 100-point budget: 25 for working in the same function, 40 for the same therapeutic area, 20 for the same or adjacent seniority, 15 for the same country. A dimension we can't confirm on both sides contributes nothing, never a guess, never a free pass.

Unmatched or unknown dimensions score exactly the same: 0 points, never a partial guess. A role we know almost nothing about beyond its function bottoms out at 25%; it never inflates to 100% just because there's little to compare against. Seniority uses a defined ladder (Associate → Manager → Associate Director → Senior → Principal → Director → Senior Director → Executive/VP) so "Director" and "Senior Director" count as adjacent, but "Director" and "Executive/VP" do not.
