Job Description:
This is a senior regional Medical Affairs leadership role supporting Johnson & Johnson MedTech Surgery across APAC, with responsibility for the Ethicon and Mentor portfolios. The role provides strategic medical and scientific leadership across medical governance, product safety, and pre- and post-market clinical activities, working closely with regional and global stakeholders to support innovation, evidence generation, and improved patient outcomes.
This position will play a key role in shaping and advancing the regional medical strategy for a dynamic portfolio with active innovation pipelines, including new product introductions and lifecycle expansion opportunities across APAC.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of the Medical Director will include:
Providing the overriding vision, strategy, leadership and administrative management of the Medical Department and its constituent teams
Managing a complex web of professional and business-related interactions with a variety of individuals both within and outside the company, including physicians, industry organisations and KOLs to achieve commercial objectives.
Planning for, and managing the OPEX allocated to the medical activities within budget, making good business decisions on where resources should be deployed
Providing medical and scientific support for all licensed medical products to support customer needs, marketing goals, medical issues as well as the ongoing activities related to the safety and efficacy of these products.
Responsibility for the planning, organising, and execution of local clinical trials as well as strategic use of global clinical trial program
Defining and validating the medical and scientific content of information provided to the medical fraternity with the aim of maximizing their scientific and commercial impact.
Ensure compliance with global Johnson & Johnson healthcare guidelines, local Code of Conduct and regulations.
Ensure compliance with local/global safety responsibilities.
Assist Health Care Compliance Officer in the coordination of company legal issues.
Assist the Communications Director and Government Affairs and IMAT Director in handling media issues, particularly those medically related.
Medical and scientific advice to the Executive Board
Education & SKILLSET requirements
Medically qualified physician preferred
At least five years experience in the pharmaceutical or medical devices industry
Additional experience serving as a medical professional in a medical devices and diagnostics company would be highly desirable
Demonstrable project management skills and experience in analytical evaluation, organisation, delegation, team management, negotiating and resources management. Budget forecast and implementation skills are essential.
Strong commercial focus and strategic skills, with sound judgement.
Ability to offset technical aspects with commercial realities.
MBA qualification desirable but not essential
Commitment to improvement in patient outcomes
