The Position
Are you passionate about driving digital transformation in drug discovery? As a Digital Expert, you will pioneer digital and AI innovations that shape how the global Drug Discovery Sciences (gDDS) makes key decisions in the development of new medicines.
Join the Data and Digital Sciences (DDS²) team as a digitalization expert who actively drives data workflow and agentic AI innovation in drug discovery. You will have the unique opportunity to collaborate with gDDS subject matter experts across pre-clinical drug discovery, from target validation and biomarker discovery to hit identification and candidate selection. You will lead innovation projects and implement transformative solutions in gDDS that directly benefit Boehringer’s research programs and help bring new medicines to patients.
This is an onsite position located in Biberach.

This position is part time eligible with 80%.
Tasks & responsibilities
In your new role, you will lead and drive digital innovation projects in gDDS with internal and external stakeholders across drug discovery from target validation to candidate selection.
You will apply your expertise hands-on to deliver high-quality digital workflows and agentic AI tools in areas such as high-throughput screening, pre-clinical CMC, in vitro and in vivo DMPK, PK/PD, and safety pharmacology.
Furthermore, you will identify internal and external innovation opportunities and integrate them into gDDS’s digital landscape in close alignment with the digital strategy of the Innovation Unit.
You will collaborate with partners across drug discovery disciplines to support ongoing discovery programs with fit-for-purpose digital workflows and agentic AI tools.
Moreover, you will engage internal and external development teams and guide their implementation activities with expert advice.
In addition, you will promote digital innovation within the gDDS and beyond by presenting digital innovation initiatives throughout Boehringer’s Innovation Unit.
Requirements
PhD in Data Science, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Bioinformatics, Information Technology or a related discipline; alternatively, equivalent professional experience
Several years of relevant postdoctoral or industry experience working in multidisciplinary, cross-functional teams; experience in the pharmaceutical industry is beneficial
Demonstrated success in driving digital innovation in pharmaceutical research, drug discovery, biology or medicine. Project management experience is beneficial
Profound understanding in theory and principle of digital data workflows and AI solutions with application to pharmaceutical research
Proficiency in scientific programming languages (e.g., Python or R) and implementation of AI tools. Experience in full-stack development is beneficial
Strong ability to communicate effectively with internal and external drug discovery experts
Demonstrated leadership experience in guiding peers and working in cross-functional matrix project teams, combined with fluency in written and spoken English
