Software Engineer, DevSecOps
About this opportunity
The Role:
Joining Moderna offers the unique opportunity to be part of a pioneering team that's revolutionizing medicine through mRNA technology, with a diverse pipeline of development programs across various diseases.
As an employee, you'll be part of a continually growing organization, working alongside exceptional colleagues and strategic partners worldwide, contributing to global health initiatives.
Moderna's commitment to advancing the technological frontier of mRNA medicines ensures a challenging and rewarding career experience, with the potential to make a significant impact on patients' lives worldwide.
Moderna is looking for a hands-on, impact-driven DevSecOps Software Engineer to build and evolve the foundations that help application teams develop, deploy, and operate software effectively. This is an individual contributor role that collaborates directly with developers ("Builders") to provide scalable, secure, and user-focused platform capabilities.
This is a high-growth opportunity for engineers who want to expand their scope beyond a traditional software engineering role and gain hands-on experience across the full lifecycle of modern software systems, from design and implementation to cloud infrastructure, deployment, and production operations. In this role, you will improve developer experience and accelerate delivery. You will also help manage internal services, AI agents, and cloud infrastructure in AWS; improve CI/CD pipelines; and create reusable tooling that makes the right path the easiest path for engineering teams.
Here’s What You’ll Do
Build and maintain automation for developer platform services using Python/TypeScript, GitHub Actions, Pulumi, Docker, AWS, JFrog, and other vendor APIs.
Partner with application teams to migrate workloads onto standard platform capabilities.
Support migration and management of existing DevOps tooling to our target, standardized platform by onboarding repositories and teams, validating behavior, improving developer workflows, and documenting remediation paths.
Create and maintain developer remote workspace infrastructure, templates, container configurations, base images, development tools, and onboarding documentation.
Improve reliability and usability through monitoring, alerting, runbooks, dashboards, and support automation.
Write clear internal documentation, examples, and paved-road guides for builders.
Identify recurring developer pain points and contribute improvements to shared frameworks, templates, and platform tooling.
Participate in operational support for owned platforms while reducing toil through automation.
Enable AI-assisted development across the platform (e.g., integrating MCP-style capabilities, packaging internal tools, and improving developer experience with AI tools).
Here’s What You’ll Need (Minimum Qualifications)
5+ years of experience in software engineering, platform engineering, DevOps or a related role.
Strong programming skills in TypeScript/JavaScript or Python.
Hands-on experience building and operating solutions in AWS.
Experience creating and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for production systems.
Interest in developer tooling, platform engineering, infrastructure automation, and secure software delivery.
Solid understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including testing, code review, version control, and system design.
Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing team priorities and contribute across a range of platform engineering responsibilities, including areas outside immediate prior experience.
Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)
Familiar with infrastructure as code tools.
Experience with GitHub Actions or similar CI/CD platforms.
Experience with artifact repositories such as JFrog Artifactory, Nexus, GitHub Packages, or similar.
Experience with security scanning tools, dependency management, code scanning, or vulnerability remediation workflows.
Comfort partnering with multiple engineering teams and influencing adoption through strong technical execution.

How we calculate "similar"
No black box, no LLM guesswork: a deterministic score built from four normalized attributes. Here's this role's own peer group at different match levels, so you can see the mechanism, not just the result.
Every comparison starts from the same 100-point budget: 25 for working in the same function, 40 for the same therapeutic area, 20 for the same or adjacent seniority, 15 for the same country. A dimension we can't confirm on both sides contributes nothing, never a guess, never a free pass.
0 points, never a partial guess. A role we know almost nothing about beyond its function bottoms out at 25%; it never inflates to 100% just because there's little to compare against. Seniority uses a defined ladder (Associate → Manager → Associate Director → Senior → Principal → Director → Senior Director → Executive/VP) so "Director" and "Senior Director" count as adjacent, but "Director" and "Executive/VP" do not.
