Position Summary
Vertex is entering an exciting phase of commercial diversification. As we expand into new pipeline disease areas and new geographies, we are investing in data, technology, and AI to scale commercial operations globally. The Commercial, Medical and External Affairs Technology team is expanding our capabilities with increased investment in data, platforms, and AI. This role establishes the end-to-end architecture required to scale AI and digital capabilities across the enterprise.
The Senior Director, Commercialization Technology Architect is responsible for defining and governing target-state architectures, integration patterns, and platform standards that enable scalable, secure, and compliant AI solutions. This role ensures technologies deployed by Product, Data, and Engineering teams are aligned to enterprise architecture, interoperable across systems, and built for long-term scale. This is a technical architecture leadership role focused on translating business and product direction into production-ready system design, data flows, and platform integration.
Key Responsibilities
Architecture Strategy & Standards
Define and maintain target-state architecture across Commercial and Medical ecosystems
Establish reference architectures, design patterns, and engineering standards for AI-enabled systems
Govern architecture alignment across CRM, omnichannel, patient services, and enterprise platforms
Ensure consistency with enterprise architecture and platform strategies
Integration & Data Architecture
Own integration patterns and data flows across Salesforce, Veeva, data platforms, and downstream systems
Define real-time and batch data architectures, including event-driven patterns and APIs
Ensure alignment with enterprise data platforms (e.g., MDM, Snowflake, Databricks)
Partner with Data teams to ensure data readiness, lineage, and interoperability
Technology & Platform Governance
Partners with engineering function and core technology to define standards across cloud and data platforms MDM, Snowflake, Databricks, Snowflake supporting Commercial and Medical affairs domains
Lead architecture decisions for build vs. buy vs. partner solutions
Establish environment, deployment, and DevOps architecture patterns within the Commercial and Medical affairs domains
Maintain architecture documentation for scalability, reuse, and audibility
Security, Risk & Compliance
Ensure architectures meet SOX, GxP, privacy, and security requirements
Define patterns for observability, audibility, and controls in AI systems
Partner with InfoSec, Legal, Privacy, and Quality to embed compliance by design
Delivery Enablement
Partner with Product Management, Engineering, and Data teams to translate product requirements into executable architectures
Provide hands-on guidance to ensure solutions are production-ready and aligned to standards
Serve as final architecture authority for design reviews and major platform decisions
Knowledge & Skills
Deep expertise in enterprise architecture, solution design, and distributed systems
Strong experience with CRM and commercial platforms (Salesforce, Veeva)
Proven ability to design complex integrations and data architectures at scale
Hands-on experience with cloud and data warehouse platforms (AWS, Azure, Snowflake, etc...) and modern data stacks
Experience designing systems incorporating AI/ML and LLM-based capabilities
Strong understanding of AI architectures (e.g. MCP)
Expertise in security, compliance, and regulated environments (SOX, GxP)
Ability to translate complex architecture into clear guidance for engineering teams
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
12+ years of experience in enterprise architecture or solution architecture roles
Experience in pharma, biotech, or regulated healthcare environments strongly preferred
Proven track record delivering enterprise-scale platform and integration architecture
Experience working across Commercial, Medical, or patient services systems
Pay Range:
$228,000 - $342,000
Disclosure Statement:
The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.

1. Hybrid: work remotely up to two days per week; or select
