Your role:

In this role, you will design and develop intuitive user experiences for advanced AI solutions within the Advanced Data Science team in the Data Sciences organization. You will translate complex scientific and operational workflows into interactive applications that enable scientists and business users to engage effectively with large language models, agentic AI systems, and advanced analytical capabilities across pharmaceutical Research & Development.

Working closely with users, scientists, Applied AI Engineers, the Senior Full-Stack Software Engineer, and the Lead Applied AI Engineer, you will shape solutions from the earliest stages of use-case discovery. You will observe how users work, identify unmet needs and workflow friction, and rapidly turn insights into wireframes, prototypes, and functioning frontend applications that can be tested and improved through direct user feedback.

You will design human-AI interactions that make complex AI behaviour understandable, controllable, and useful. This includes interfaces for conversational and task-oriented workflows, human review and approval, source attribution, feedback capture, progress and status communication, error recovery, and the presentation of uncertainty, recommendations, and supporting evidence.

You will combine user-experience design with hands-on frontend engineering. You will build responsive and accessible interfaces, connect them to backend services and AI workflows, and iterate rapidly as use cases evolve. You will ensure that successful prototypes can progressively mature into coherent, maintainable, and production-ready applications.

You will establish user-centred design practices within the team, including user research, journey mapping, usability testing, interaction design, prototyping, and structured feedback collection. You will help define reusable interface patterns for AI-enabled applications while avoiding one-size-fits-all experiences that do not reflect the needs of specific scientific workflows.

You will work in close partnership with enterprise IT, digital workplace, design, accessibility, and platform teams. Your role will focus on the use-case-specific user experience and frontend implementation required for Advanced Data Science solutions, complementing IT ownership of enterprise design systems, shared platforms, hosting environments, cybersecurity standards, and long-term application operations.

Staying current with advances in human-computer interaction, human-AI collaboration, frontend development, and AI product design, you will help the team demonstrate value quickly while ensuring that solutions remain intuitive, trustworthy, and aligned with the way R&D users work.

Who you are:

You hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in human-computer interaction, interaction design, computer science, software engineering, digital design, or a related discipline.

You have minimum 5 years of relevant experience in UX design, frontend engineering, product design, or the development of user-facing digital applications.

You possess a strong portfolio demonstrating your ability to translate complex workflows and user needs into intuitive interfaces and functioning digital products.

You have hands-on experience conducting user research, workflow observation, journey mapping, wireframing, prototyping, and usability testing.

You have strong frontend development skills and practical experience with modern web technologies and frameworks such as JavaScript or TypeScript, React, Angular, Vue, or comparable technologies.

You can independently translate designs into functioning frontend applications and integrate them with APIs, backend services, and data-driven components.

You have experience designing interfaces for complex, data-intensive, scientific, analytical, or enterprise applications.

You understand the specific interaction challenges associated with AI-enabled systems, including non-deterministic outputs, conversational interactions, user oversight, feedback collection, source attribution, uncertainty, and error recovery.

You have experience designing human-in-the-loop workflows, review and approval mechanisms, or interfaces that support users in making informed decisions.

You are familiar with responsive design, accessibility standards, component libraries, design systems, and frontend testing practices.

You are comfortable working rapidly and iteratively, moving from early concepts to interactive prototypes and progressively refining them based on user evidence.

You collaborate effectively with scientists, business stakeholders, AI engineers, software engineers, designers, and enterprise IT teams.

You possess strong communication, facilitation, and problem-solving skills and can explain design decisions clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.

Experience in pharmaceutical R&D, healthcare, life sciences, or another regulated environment is considered an advantage.

Computed from every other active role in our database, not just this employer's listings.

We don't have enough classified peer data for this role yet, so there's no comparison to show. This happens when a posting's title/category doesn't match any taxonomy rule -- it's excluded rather than compared against the wrong peer group.
