Hybrid Model: 3 days per week from office

Global Clinical Solutions (GCS) drives the delivery of services and technology for AstraZeneca for its internal and external stakeholders The Manager II, GCS supports teams to improve process effectiveness and performance in operational processes/procedures within the department, as well as providing support and guidance in the development of processes owned by Global Clinical Solutions. Individuals with this job coordinates/leads and delivers GCS services across projects and/or other activities that enable delivery of Clinical Development programs to time, cost, and quality across all delivery models. They may be assigned one or more roles relating to the development and maintenance of processes, systems and services. All Manager II GCS, leads improvement projects as needed.

Main accountabilities:

Manager II, GCS is capable of accepting increased levels of responsibility comparing to Manager, knows all relevant procedures for their area of expertise and can participate actively in procedures creation and/or updates

Coordinates and delivers GCS services and coordinates life cycle management and business continuity for projects services and technology. Provides expert support to user communities including conducting relevant process/system/tool trainings

facilitating knowledge sharing

establishing of best practice

ensuring communication with relevant stakeholders across GCS and AZ

Conducts critical analyses of processes and tools to define business usage and identifies opportunities to improve efficiency/effectiveness of systems/services/processes whilst reducing business continuity risks. Contributes to and/or develops business cases for continuous improvement projects

Leads or manages business improvement projects according to lean principles, including planning, prioritizing, implementing and tracking delivery

Supports the implementation of changes to improve the way various functions and teams perform

Evaluates and monitors the performance and efficiency of programs to ensure that program implementation is on target

Responsible for training colleagues to use continuous improvement in the new ways of working and embed change culture

Grows capabilities, applies new approaches to improve work; and has positive impact on team performance creating learning opportunity for others

Responsible for knowledge management of continuous improvement activities and ensuring that the knowledge is used in the selection and execution of future activities

Advanced expertise in GCS service model delivery compared to Manager

Mentor/role model for more junior staff, may own and / or create training material for their functional area, may be involved in or even lead recruitment activities for junior staff

Capable of Identification of process or system issues and appropriate escalation through the study team and / or GCS

Responsible for more complex study builds (not just eCOA but devices and Apps), adaptive designs (basket and platform builds in IRT), expansion of Veeva services

Subject Matter Experts

Change agents and project management across GCS, ability to increase productivity and innovation within assigned area(s) and to recognize opportunities for new ways of working

Education, qualifications, skills and experience

Essential

University degree in related discipline, preferably in biological science or healthcare-related fields, such as medicine, nursing, or equivalent experience

Ability to work collaboratively; proven organizational and analytical skills, and proven skills to deliver to time, cost and quality

Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English

Strong business communication, stakeholder management and presentation skills

Well-developed organisational and interpersonal skills

Ensures risks and issues management to ensure effective delivery. Expertly utilises escalation routes and governance to gain traction and deliver rapid solutions

Shares lessons learned and best practice recommendations with relevant stakeholders to drive continuous improvement

Builds relationships and achieve results without line management input

Curious and self-motivated

Min. 18 months of experience at Manager, GCS level or equivalent experience

Good understanding of technology landscape and clinical research process in AZ, operating models and interdependencies between systems and functions

Project management skills - ability to independently manage study vendor(s) or processes, using appropriate tools

Desirable

Expert in their relevant area (study management area, vendor, study stages, activity, continuous improvement)

Experience of utilizing standard process improvement methodologies (e.g. Lean Six Sigma) to identify root causes of process issues and identify areas of process improvement

Some experience of Quality Systems and Quality Management, including process definition and process improvement, ideally within an Information Systems environment

Experience in multiple fields of clinical development

Understanding ICH GCP guidelines in relation to study delivery

Experience of working in a global organisation with complex/geographical context
