About this opportunity

The Position

A healthier future. It’s what drives us to innovate. To continuously advance science and ensure everyone has access to the healthcare they need today and for generations to come. Creating a world where we all have more time with the people we love. That’s what makes us Roche.

Advances in AI, data, and computational sciences are transforming drug discovery and development. Roche’s Research and Early Development organisations at Genentech (gRED) and Pharma (pRED) have demonstrated how these technologies accelerate R&D, leveraging data and novel computational models to drive impact. Seamless data sharing and access to models across gRED and pRED are essential to maximising these opportunities. The new Computational Sciences Center of Excellence (CS CoE/CoE) is a strategic, unified group whose goal is to harness this transformative power of data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to assist our scientists in both pRED and gRED to deliver more innovative and transformative medicines for patients worldwide.

Within the CoE organisation, the Portfolio & Operations team organises and drives CoE core operations: portfolio strategy & management, administration, budget planning, vendor management and procurement, managing cloud & software spend, Learning & Development, and Operational Guidelines. This team serves as both the strategic catalyst and operational backbone for the CoE enabling business performance, transparency, and accountability.

We are seeking an experienced Portfolio Manager to help drive the P&O Portfolio Management team. This role is setting the foundation for the CoE with a robust, trustworthy “source of truth” portfolio and supporting processes.  Additionally, this role will help sculpt what “Portfolio Management” looks like in the future - transitioning from building the initial portfolio infrastructure to helping guide the strategic vision of the CoE.

Location:

US-based (EST) with the expectation to work within a global team (US and European timezones).

The Opportunity:

Strategic Leadership: Support creation of the strategy for the portfolio management team, defining and iterating on key processes and roadmaps.

Execution Oversight: Ensure roadmap execution, on-time delivery, unblocking of issues, and escalation to leadership when needed.

Data Excellence: Be a true expert of the CS CoE Portfolio data and steward of quality; not only understanding what is present today, but what is missing and will be needed in the future.

Landscape Research: Partner with other key leaders to understand where the biggest opportunities are for the CoE outside of its current portfolio.

Who You Are:

PhD or Master’s degree (e.g. MBA); alternatively Bachelor’s degree with equivalent, supplementary experience.

5 - 10+ years of experience with Data & Digital/Informatics within Pharma R&D.

Experience managing a portfolio or a complex set of programs is a must.

Project & Portfolio management coursework or additional supportive training (e.g. PMP/PgMP/PfMP, Six Sigma, Lean, Design Thinking, Agile methodology, etc.).

Proven experience in strategic planning and execution, especially in dynamic and evolving environments.

Strong facilitation skills, with the ability to guide cross-functional teams towards successful outcomes.

Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, adept at managing a wide range of stakeholders.

Demonstrated ability to translate vision into practical tactics and measurable success criteria.

A strategic thinker with a strong emphasis on execution.

Ability to work independently and proactively, with a focus on driving strategic initiatives to completion.

Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.

Comfortable navigating complex and sometimes challenging stakeholder dynamics.

Onsite presence on our campus is expected in compliance with Roche/Genentech policy.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

How we calculate "similar"

No black box, no LLM guesswork: a deterministic score built from four normalized attributes. Here's this role's own peer group at different match levels, so you can see the mechanism, not just the result.

Every comparison starts from the same 100-point budget: 25 for working in the same function, 40 for the same therapeutic area, 20 for the same or adjacent seniority, 15 for the same country. A dimension we can't confirm on both sides contributes nothing, never a guess, never a free pass.

Unmatched or unknown dimensions score exactly the same: 0 points, never a partial guess. A role we know almost nothing about beyond its function bottoms out at 25%; it never inflates to 100% just because there's little to compare against. Seniority uses a defined ladder (Associate → Manager → Associate Director → Senior → Principal → Director → Senior Director → Executive/VP) so "Director" and "Senior Director" count as adjacent, but "Director" and "Executive/VP" do not.
