The GBS Data Office (GDO) provides Data Governance, Data Management and Assurance services for the AstraZeneca organisation. The scope of the function covers the following data domains: Finance Master Data, Supplier/Vendor Master Data, Customer Master Data and a broad range of data services for our Commercial business units (including Sales data, Product data, market share, digital data). The GDO vision is to be a collaborative, trusted innovative and value led enterprise-level data function enabling process excellence & timely decision making. The GDO has an ambitious plan to transform the data management service provision for our current scope and drive opportunities to expand our services to other data domains where there is business value.
The Global Standards & Quality lead is responsible for the fitness and use of critical data domains across Global and Local commercial teams, Leading a small team of Data Governance Managers to maintain the quality and integrity of commercial data through data standards, data literacy, data quality management and the oversight of data management processes. This will include managing the Global Data Product forum responsible for driving an efficient and strategically aligned data product roadmap.
You will also lead an ambitious change agenda that delivers efficiency, consistency and alignment across the data management lifecycle for commercial data and enables the deployment of AI and Automation across our data processes. You will work collaboratively with colleagues from across the GDO, including the data operations, data enablement and data policy & compliance teams, to ensure our services are meeting our customer’s requirements and are standardised and in line AZ Enterprise data principles, policies and standards.
As a key member of the GDO team you will contribute to the future direction of the department, identify opportunities to grow our service provision, build talent and capability across the GDO & lead team engagement activities to support making AZ a Great Place To Work.
Typical Accountabilities:
Data Standards & Data Quality
Manage the team of data governance managers; set clear personal objectives and performance goals and ensure functional objectives and strategies are cascade and adopted
Be the focal point for data governance across Global Data Domains and play key role in projects and data opportunities as appropriate
Partner closely with Regional Data Governance Leads ensuring global processes and standards are well understood and adhered to where possible.
Oversee the creation and maintenance of documented standards and policies
Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and customers to identify new opportunities for the GDO and to ensure existing services are meeting expectations
Communicate team’s successes and milestones across all corporate communications channels
Collaborate with performance manager to provision performance and value metrics
Partner with Technology teams to ensure Commercial Data Quality reporting and management requirements are met
Lead cross-functional teams to address data quality issues at source in an efficient and sustainable manner
Data Governance Strategy & Operations
Co-lead the adoption of Data Governance Framework, roles and responsibilities within Commercial
Collaborate with the Policy and Assurance Data Governance Lead to contribute to the ongoing development of the GDO Data Governance Framework, to align with both Enterprise data standards and Commercial’s organisational structure
Establish and manage the Global Data Product Forum; maintain effective relationships with Global Data Domain leads and Data Product Managers, provide transparency of data product KPIs and own
Leadership, Improvement & Change
Contribute to definition and execution of mission, vision, strategy, goals, roadmap and metrics for the GBS Data Office
Mentor, educate and guide junior colleagues within the data governance function and wider GDO
Stay informed on industry trends and best practices in data management and quality assurance
Essential
Strong understanding of data governance principles: Knowledge of frameworks such as DAMA-DMBOK or equivalent, including data stewardship, metadata management, data quality, and master data management
Familiarity with data privacy and compliance: Experience navigating data privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA, etc.) and industry-specific compliance requirements.
Data management software proficiency: Hands-on experience with data governance and management tools (e.g., Collibra, Informatica, Alation, or similar).
Commercial domain expertise: Understanding of commercial business processes (e.g., digital engagement, marketing, customer relationship management) in the pharmaceuticals sector.
Hands on experience of managing a driven customer centric data, or reporting/analytics team delivering to strict deadlines.
Stakeholder management: Experience engaging, influencing, and collaborating with senior stakeholders, including commercial leaders, IT, compliance, and data owners.
Value realisation: Ability to link data governance initiatives to commercial objectives and KPIs, demonstrating the impact of improved data quality on business outcomes.
Excellent leadership skills particularly around people development and passion for customers
Experience of working with commercial data in a large organisation, and communicating with senior commercial stakeholders
A proven track record of delivering business value and awareness of service levels
In-depth understanding of the core data domains in a pharmaceutical industry
Experience in implementing and leading change programs and/or managing teams through rapid change environments
Desirable
Experience of working in a global pharmaceutical organisation with complex/geographical context
Knowledge of key commercial data sets (Customer (HCP/HCO), Product, sales, customer interaction) data management systems, data structures and principles
Project Management Skills
Excel / Power BI analytics capability
Knowledge of Reltio would be desirable
