Job Description

This role is responsible for driving top performance in Site Operations at Amgen Genome Valley. Reporting to the VP Research Small Molecule Therapeutic Discovery, with dotted line reporting to VP Site Head Amgen India (AIN), this position works closely with all functions and units to drive the development and delivery of Site Strategy, and oversees facilities, security, and operational excellence for Amgen Genome Valley (AGV).

The Executive Director (ED), AGV Site Head serves as chief steward of the site, ensuring smooth site operations, scientific lab management and lab safety, while enhancing internal engagement and external outreach.  For certain candidates, leading a scientific Research team may also be within scope.

Site Stewardship

Drive the development and execution of AGV’s strategy, goals and objectives.

Lead the AGV site leadership team (SLT), managing site-wide processes and providing executive guidance to support decision-making through SLT meetings and extended leadership forums.

Liaise with global VP heads of the AGV staff to ensure alignment and consistency between AGV and other sites.

Generate and leverage business intelligence to inform site priorities and decisions.

Support business performance and strategic initiatives critical to AGV’s future success.

Lead and implement organizational and change management strategies to enable the organization to adapt to evolving business challenges.

Develop solutions to complex business challenges through in-depth analysis, coordination and negotiation with key decision makers.

Serves as primary collaborator with executive sponsors, providing executive guidance to senior management.

Scientific Lab Management

Enable cohesive development of site strategy, priorities and initiatives, aligned with Amgen R&D’s enterprise deliverables: to discover, develop, and deliver transformative medicines that address the leading causes of death and disability.

Develop approaches to improve site productivity and efficiency.

Ensure best practices in lab safety and compliance, in coordination with site safety protocols.

Site Operations

Ensure effective site support through aligning strategy and priorities for Environmental Health, Safety & Sustainability, Facilities, Lab Operations, and Security.

Facilitate the design and execution of the operations governance framework.

Serve as the point-of-contact for stakeholder groups regarding space planning, capital improvements and related matters.

Safety

Ensure staff safety and compliance with Amgen corporate practices, including the implementation of safety goals and governance, training, risk assessment, inspections, chemical management, safety surveillance and safety communications.

Ensure Crisis Management readiness, including Annual Emergency/Disaster Recovery training.

Internal Engagement & External Outreach

Lead and manage all site visits with the site leadership team, including visits from executives and operational reviews.

Foster staff engagement through Town Halls, Employee Resource Groups, Guest Speakers, Site Events and more.

Represent Amgen in the local community, sponsor and participate in scientific events (e.g., BIO Asia) and engage with local universities.

Preferred Qualification :

Advanced degree (Ph.D or Master's degree) in Life sciences/pharmacy/similar discipline or medical degree is preferred.

15+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical/healthcare industry.

Excellent quantitative and qualitative skills including financial analysis

Good business acumen, high-level strategic thinking and analytical skills

Demonstrated understanding of drug discovery , commercialization, operations planning, strategic planning, commercial operations, and finance

Ability to communicate and collaborate cross functionally

Excellent conceptual problem solving/strategy skills with demonstrated ability to bring structure to vaguely defined problems

Outstanding executive verbal and written communication and presentation skills

Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills with a demonstrated ability to drive decisions

Proven experience as a member and leader of a high performing team, leadership skills, organizational and project management experience.
