About this opportunity

Do you want to work at the intersection of biological science and commercial manufacturing? We are now looking for a Drug product specialist (also known as Process Scientist) to join our Manufacturing Science & Technology (MS&T) team at AstraZeneca in Södertälje.

About the role

As a Process Scientist, you will be responsible for the scientific and technical aspects of new product introductions, technology transfers, and commercial manufacturing support within drug product processes.

The role covers both the implementation of new processes and support for existing commercial products. You will contribute scientific expertise in areas such as formulation, aseptic filling, lyophilization, and visual inspection.

Key responsibilities for a Process Scientist:

Lead the scientific aspects in new product introductions and technology transfers for drug product processes

Ensure commercial process robustness through process understanding, risk assessments, technical studies, data analysis, and sound scientific recommendations

Lead process validation/process performance qualification

Lead/contribute to Product Maintenance

Provide product specific scientific and technical support to ongoing commercial operations,

Contribute to the development of ways of working, digital templates, and risk-based approaches to enable consistency and efficiency across MS&T activities

Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Engineering, QA, QC, Supply Chain, global teams, development functions, and external partners

Contribute to GMP documentation and regulatory submissions

Who we are looking for

We are looking for someone with a strong scientific foundation who thrives in an environment where science meets manufacturing. You are comfortable taking ownership, driving technical and scientific topics forward, and translating complex data and process challenges into clear decisions and practical solutions. You are also flexible in adapting to new ways of working or identifying improvements to increase organisational effectiveness.

Essential qualifications

To succeed in this role, we believe you have:

MSc or higher, in biotechnology, chemical engineering, pharmacy, or another relevant life science or engineering discipline

3+ years of experience in biologics, pharmaceutical development, technology transfer or commercial manufacturing, with a focus on drug product

Experience in one or more relevant areas such as formulation, aseptic filling, lyophilization, and visual inspection

Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken

Desirable qualifications 

It is considered an advantage if you also have:

A PhD or other advanced specialization in a relevant field

Experience working in global and cross-functional teams

Familiarity with regulatory requirements for aseptic parenteral products

Knowledge of single-use systems, isolator technology, or finished pack manufacturing

Knowledge of digital transformation and AI applications in manufacturing, process monitoring, or technical support activities
