Director, Head of Value, Evidence & Access

Role and Responsibilities

The Director, Head of Value, Evidence & Access (VE&A) is a key strategic position in Integrated Market Access Team (IMAT) and Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine Japan (J&J IM Japan/Janssen Japan) to drive Japan HTA (Cost-Effective Analysis/CEA) preparation, submission and negotiation, as well as evidence generation to meet access needs. In the evolving healthcare environment in Japan, this position will work with other department heads in IMAT (e.g. Pricing, Policy) to design for access and strengthen the market access capability within the organization. The Head of VE&A will also work closely with other functions in J&J IM Japan including NPP (New Product Planning), MAF, R&D and Commercial, as well as regional and global leaders.

The main responsibilities are:

Lead the team to assess likelihood of Japan HTA designation during LRFP and other decision-making process.

Drive strategy of Japan HTA preparation, submission and negotiation.

Participate in IMAT Leadership reviews for key access decisions.

Build overall Market Access evidence generation strategy for J&J IM Japan, which should be aligned with local company’s and regional/global market access strategy.

Work closely with regional / global market access team to communicate Japan’s access evidence needs.

Work closely with cross functional teams to develop and strengthen company’s market access and evidence generation capability.

and maintain strategic relationships with key external stakeholders, e.g. Industry associations, Academia key opinion leaders; Support external engagement on HTA related policy strategy in collaboration with the policy department.

Manage budget and lead the team members as a people manager

Qualification Requirement

Experience

•    Minimum 8 years of experience in health economics or market access in healthcare industry is required.

•    In-depth understanding of Japanese governments and their perspective on Healthcare/Social insurance strategy is required.

•    Knowledge on health economic analysis, cost-effective analysis (CEA), and methodology used in evidence generation.

•    Experience in building teams and managing people and budgets.

•    Experience in working successfully in complex matrix environments.

Education

•    Higher degree in related fields such as Pharmacy, Health Economics, Outcomes Research, Health Services Research, Public Health, and Epidemiology is preferred.

Skills and Capabilities

•    Strong collaboration/communication skills.

•    Ability to drive and shape the decision-making.

•    Clear prioritization.

•    Ability to understand both science and business strategy; Identify solutions to support the company’s business goals.

•    Adaptability to the local culture and way of working.

•    Ability to build a high-performing team while accurately assessing the upward potential of subordinates and developing skills and leadership tailored to each individual.

•    Business English skill is required; Japanese is preferred.
