CD&A Data Scientist, Obesity – Senior Associate – Hybrid

This role requires three days a week on-site.

The Data Scientist - Senior Associate role within Commercial Data & Analytics (CD&A) is a hands‑on analytics position supporting commercial strategy, performance measurement, and decision‑making across Amgen’s portfolio. Based in Thousand Oaks, this role applies advanced analytics, statistical modeling, and data science techniques to commercial business questions and partners closely with cross‑functional teams to deliver actionable insights.

This position is designed for an early‑career data scientist who demonstrates strong execution, technical rigor, and the ability to translate analytical outputs into business‑relevant insights. The role does not have direct reports.

What you will do

Commercial Analytics & Data Science

Develop, maintain, and enhance analytical and data science solutions to support commercial decision‑making (e.g., forecasting inputs, patient/market segmentation, performance analytics)

Apply statistical and machine‑learning techniques to large, complex commercial datasets

Conduct exploratory data analysis, feature engineering, and model validation

Interpret results with an understanding of commercial context and data limitations

Data & Technical Execution

Write and optimize SQL queries to extract, transform, and analyze data from enterprise data sources

Work with cloud‑based analytics environments and curated data assets

Support repeatable analytics workflows and model deployment processes

Develop dashboards and visualizations using tools such as Tableau or Spotfire

Business Partnership

Translate business questions from marketing, forecasting, insights, and leadership teams into analytical approaches

Communicate findings clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences

Support ongoing commercial reviews, planning activities, and ad‑hoc analyses

Collaborate closely with forecasting, insights, data strategy, and technology partners within CD&A

Ways of Working

Apply structured problem‑solving and sound judgment in analytical design

Ensure adherence to data governance, compliance, and documentation standards

Basic Qualifications

Master's Degree OR

Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of relevant experience, OR

Associate’s degree and 6 years of relevant experience OR

High school diploma / GED and 8 years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications

Proficiency in Python and/or R

Strong experience with SQL and relational databases

Experience with Tableau, Spotfire, or similar visualization tools

Familiarity with cloud analytics platforms (e.g., Databricks, Azure, AWS)

Understanding of statistical modeling and machine‑learning concepts

Ability to synthesize complex analyses into clear, business‑focused insights

Experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, healthcare, or commercial analytics preferred

Strong collaboration and communication skills in a matrixed organization

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
