Your Role

We’re seeking a Bioprocess Applications Engineer 3 to join the Single Use and Integrated Systems PAT & Digital Applications team, part of MilliporeSigma’s Process Solutions business unit. Based at our Bedford, MA campus, this role will support the development and application of integrated platform solutions for next-generation bioprocessing.

In this role, you will combine engineering fundamentals, hands-on experimentation, data analysis, modeling, and customer-focused problem-solving to evaluate emerging technologies and characterize system performance. You will translate application insights into product requirements, technical recommendations, and practical guidance that support both product development and customer success. Key responsibilities include:

Integrate PAT sensors and inline spectroscopy into downstream unit operations, including Protein A chromatography, UF/DF, and other mAb purification steps

Lead development, optimization, and lifecycle management of Raman chemometric models for mAb streams, buffers, and excipients

Oversee qualification, deployment, and lifecycle support of Raman instruments and inline sensing units, including model transfer and qualification activities

Identify and address customer PAT performance gaps, competitive technology landscapes, and process design targets through data-driven solutions and strategic recommendations

Drive technical strategy in inline spectroscopy, advanced process control, and digitalization of process and analytical tools

Lead cross-functional contributions spanning R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, Sales, and Product Management to commercialize PAT and digital solutions

Produce customer-facing technical content, including application notes, technical guides, and webinars

Support customer trials and investigations; capture actionable feedback to inform product and application development

 

Who You Are

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering or other engineering discipline

OR

Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering or other engineering discipline AND 4+ years of industry experience

OR

Bachelor's degree in a Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering or other engineering discipline AND 5+ years of industry experience

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

Experience in biopharmaceutical process development, PAT implementation, or analytical method development in a biomanufacturing context, with a demonstrated track record of leading technical projects to completion

Technical expertise and hands-on experience with PAT sensors, inline spectroscopy (e.g., Raman), chemometric model development, process automation, and downstream biomanufacturing unit operations

Experience leading projects of moderate to extended complexity, driving results and meeting milestones with excellent problem-solving skills, a collaborative mindset, and strong adherence to data integrity and cGMP documentation standards

Ability to communicate effectively with peers, customers, vendors, and stakeholders through written technical reports, oral presentations, timely discussions and experience mentoring junior engineers

Ability to apply engineering and scientific principles to resolve technical challenges of extended scope and complexity, with the ability to translate analytical insights into actionable process improvements and strategic recommendations

Pay Range for this position: $8 4,900 - $127,300  annually

The offer range represents the anticipated low and high end of the base pay compensation for this position. The actual compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level of experience, education, skills, and other job-related factors.
