Job Description

Marketing Associate Director

We are looking for a senior marketing leader to shape strategy and drive execution across our South Africa and Sub-Sahara business. This is a high-impact role for an experienced marketer who can set direction, influence across a matrix, and turn priorities into disciplined execution in a fast-moving environment.

The role calls for someone who is equally comfortable thinking strategically and staying close to delivery. You will need strong judgment, commercial credibility, and the ability to bring people together around clear priorities and outcomes.

Key responsibilities

Lead the development of marketing strategy aligned to affiliate and business priorities

Translate strategic direction into focused, executable plans with clear measures of success

Drive execution excellence across key initiatives, ensuring pace, quality, and accountability

Partner across a complex matrix to align stakeholders, remove barriers, and maintain momentum

Provide strong commercial and strategic input into portfolio priorities, opportunities, and risks

Use customer, market, and business insight to shape decisions and optimise impact

Balance long-term strategic thinking with hands-on leadership of delivery

Influence senior internal stakeholders and build alignment across local and above-country teams

Strengthen ways of working across functions to improve focus, follow-through, and outcomes

Contribute to a culture of accountability, collaboration, and high performance

What we’re looking for

Minimum Requirement of a Medical or Science Degree and/or Business/Marketing Degree/Diploma

Significant experience in marketing, with a strong track record in both strategy development and execution. At least 10 years experience

Extensive sales experience, with strong commercial understanding and customer focus

A senior profile with the presence and judgment to operate credibly with leadership stakeholders

Proven ability to lead in complex, matrixed environments where influence matters as much as authority

Strong commercial acumen and the ability to connect insight to action

Experience navigating competing priorities while maintaining clarity and momentum

Ability to move comfortably between strategic thinking and operational delivery

Strong communication skills, with the ability to align diverse stakeholders around direction and action

Knowledge of HIV and oncology

High ownership, resilience, and accountability

Why join this role

How this role compares

Computed from every other active role in our database, not just this employer's listings.

We don't have enough classified peer data for this role yet, so there's no comparison to show. This happens when a posting's title/category doesn't match any taxonomy rule -- it's excluded rather than compared against the wrong peer group.
